Headset for Playstation 5 around 100€

The only gaming headset I’ve ever used is the Logitech G535 which came in a bundle with my PS5. It’s about $100. It’s lightweight and I find it very comfortable for extended gaming sessions. There may well be better headsets (sound quality or otherwise) at this price point, but these have been...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Thanks very much for the reply. I believe the HD660S2 come with a 4.4mm balanced cable, so I’d be good to go. I know the BTR7 might not be perfect for these headphones, but the idea would be to get a desktop device at some point.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

These have been varying in price a lot on Amazon, In the last couple of weeks they’ve been as high as £499, but today they are £379, which is as low as I’ve seen them.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

I’ve been watching these on Amazon (UK) recently, and they/were £489 just the other day, but now they are £399. I’m getting tempted, would I be able to drive them OK with a Fiio BTR7?

[FiiO BTR7] Portable Bluetooth Amplifier, Color IPS display,High-performance DAC ES9219C*2,THX AAA-28*2 amps,3.5+4.4mm outputs,One-click “dongle” mode

I think if you switch battery protection on, it only takes effect on the next reboot. However, even then I don’t think it’s completely reliable.

    Driving Beyer DT880 250 Ohm

That what I was thinking, but the DT800 has a fixed cable, so using the balanced output of the BTR7 isn’t an option. As for the 32 ohm version, I have read various opinions, and most of them are unfavourable. I’ve come to the conclusion that if I get new headphones for strictly home use...

    Ear concern

I used to get this, only in my right ear. It sounds like my headphones are distorting, but then the sounds is triggered again by loud noises, like a siren, or something. I eventually realised this was caused by me listening to music too loud. Since then I kept the volume down a notch or two...

    Driving Beyer DT880 250 Ohm

My Grado Sr125i are very old and I fancy something a bit different. I’ve been considering the Beyer DT880 Edition, 250 ohm version, but have been wondering just how hard they might be to drive. I know they aren’t particularly sensitive… Would my Fiio BTR7 be enough to drive them properly, or...

    Should I get a DAP?

When my Fiio M6 packed up, I did consider replacing it with another DAP. I like a dedicated music player and the sound quality you can get from them: my M6 sounded better than my iPhone, and had much more power. However, my old iPhone had a much better interface, and was much faster and more...

    High Frequency Hearing Loss

I know humans are meant to be able to hear up to 20kHz, but as we get older, this number goes down. Unless you’re quite young, I think a maximum of 14-15kHz is quite normal.

Budget headphones with ANC at ~$100

The Sony ANC Blutooth headphones seem to work really well. My wife has a set of Sony CH700N, and even though they were the entry level model, they work really well. Battery life is meant to be over 30 hours, and I have no reason to doubt it, even after several years of use. The sound quality...

Why does a signal coming from a smartphone jack output sound better when amplified through a portable amp? 🤔

Could it be impedance related? The output impedance of the phone might not be ideal for the headphones in question, but might be ideal for the headphone amplifier input. Then, the output impedance of the amplifier might be a better match for the headphones, giving a genuinely better sound.

what was your experience switching between headphones and speakers?

Biggest difference is soundstage, in that a speaker system creates one, whilst headphones don’t. Instead you get a ‘headstage’ which can still sound great, but is not the same thing. The soundstage created by speakers can literally recreate an approximation of the ‘sound of the stage’ in your...

How do you split your spend allocation?

Traditionally in HIFi, it’s always been the source is the most important, followed by amplification and then the speakers/headphones. However, years ago, you could get some very poor sources, like bad tape decks and awful record players. It didn’t matter what amp or headphones you used, it was...

Qudelix 5K DAC/AMP (2V/80mW) isn't able to power DT 1990? (re: what is wrong in my calculations?)

The 80mW per channel quoted will probably be measured with 32 ohm headphones, at 250 ohms it may well be considerably less…

    Best iems for under $30

The Salnotes Zero seem to quite popular at the moment, but I wouldn’t personally recommend them. I know people like how they’re tuned, but I don’t like them. What sort sound of sound signature are you looking for?

Can someone recommend an iPad 1/8" headphone dongle?

No, it sounds clean and transparent to me. It sounds like I’d expect my iPad to sound like if it had a 3.5mm socket.

Can someone recommend an iPad 1/8" headphone dongle?

I’ve recently got an iPad pro for work and it has no headphone socket, so i bought the Apple USB C to 3.5mm dongle. Only £9 and it sounds great. I’m sure there are better dongles available, but the Apple one is a pretty good place to start.

A tip for the first IEM earphones

I don't think my criticisms of how they sound are related to the low cost. I believe they have been tuned to give a very specific sound signature, which apparently a lot of people like. (Even people that haven't even heard them!).

A tip for the first IEM earphones

I have the Salnotes Zero, and don‘t find them particularly well balanced at all; vocals sound a bit thin, and some female vocals sound unpleasant. I’m sure they benefit from a bit of EQ, but I prefer an IEM that sounds nice and balanced in the first place.
