Up for sale is a relatively new and gently auditioned pair of Hifiman Susvara (3.5mm). They were recently purchased open-box from an authorized retailer, headphones.com, on November 23rd 2023. After burning them in for approx. 14 hours (covered with a microfiber cloth to protect from dust) and...- moeagaru

Holo Audio Red Streamer
Has anyone here ever fully opened up their Red? Recently acquired a 220V model from a fellow forum member and trying to access the internal switch to change over to 110V for use in the USA. After placing the unit upside down, removing the bottom plate and all the screws around the edges of the...- moeagaru

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
You’re very lucky indeed! I ordered the morning of 7/1 (PST) and I’m in the rolling backorder. Perhaps because I ordered in black?- moeagaru

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Perhaps so. I ordered on 7/1, with the same posted lead time, and after 10 business days my order status changed from “in production” to “rolling backorder.” So now I haven’t the slightest clue as to when to expect shipment, but given that lead time has since slipped to 4-6 weeks for new orders...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
Will do! I’ve never heard an R-2R before so I’m excitied to hear the difference. I main a SU-8 so I’ll aim to compare it against that through my 789. My ears are also treble sensitive, and I already consider the SU-8 to be slightly bright relative to my friend’s DX7s, so I’m interested to hear...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
I’ve always been curious as to the following behind Schiit’s products. I first owned a Magni and Modi and enjoyed them for what they were, but since upgrading and learning of how poorly their products measure relative to others they compete with, the only reason I would ever reinvest would be to...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
There will almost certainly be another drop sometime in the future. The issue they cited for the initial delay was apparently “cosmetic,” though I have my doubts since it took them nearly 6 months to rectify. Regardless, the question in my mind isn’t if, but when. There were a number of orders...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
Thank you for reporting all of this. It renews my confidence in the product, which hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on eventually. I agree such channel static and distortion is very likely indicative of a faulty unit, and that a working unit should absolutely not produce any regardless of...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
No word yet on when it will drop again but there were some cancelled units from this run, so it's possible they'll relaunch it briefly with the tiny amount of stock they have left. Apparently Massdrop has done this before but I'm not certain. This is the first I'm hearing of EC Design. The...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
Airist should really have provided a driver at launch and the fact that they haven't yet done so is concerning. Their excuse for a website adds insult to injury. Massdrop support is pointing people with issues to Airist without providing a way to get in touch with them.- moeagaru

Ah, I'm not sure if Drop offers different paid/free Fedex services, but SmartPost is Fedex. It's a ground based service that hands off packages to USPS for delivery.- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
I agree SmartPost is rediculous — waiting for my THX was hard enough as it was. I know they’re providing it free but Drop really should spend a bit more for a faster, less convoluted shipping service for products this expensive.- moeagaru

Relieved to hear that. Glad macOS plays nicely with the RDAC over USB. Wait, so did they change the micro-USB port pictured to another type on the final product?- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
I'm curious how the USB input will fare with macOS. I'd love to think Audirvana would pick it right up, but hearing how picky it seems to be with drivers/compatibility I'm not exactly optimistic. macOS doesn't automatically find and install drivers like Windows does as its generics are usually...- moeagaru

Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC: A Discrete Resistor Ladder DAC For $350
Glad to hear it. I’m familiar with that — I run playback through Aurdirvana on my MBP and USB out, and the Modi 2 I first owned did not support digital volume adjustment whereas my SU-8 does. Regardless, static is unacceptable at any dBFS and I hope that issue doesn’t plague many units.- moeagaru
