    Sony NW-ZX300

UPDATE: The problem I have with the NW-ZX300 is that it does not support WMA Pro or WMA Lossless, which are the formats of my music. In addition, MediaGo always converts WMA VBR to MP3 (at lower quality). Sony Music Center upconverts WMA VBR to ALAC or FLAC, huge files with no increase in SQ...

    Sony NW-ZX300

I have a converter that might do this, or will try DBPowerAmp. Thanks -- you may have saved my DAP!

    Sony NW-ZX300

OK, great, but what do you mean by "reconvert?" Rip again (or play from original vinyl), or run WMA files through a converter set to WMA --> WMA? Thanks again for the help -- I'm going to hold off on returning the unit until I hear back from you.

    Sony NW-ZX300

Yes, I have the latest firmware, 1.10. Rockbox to change regions: wouldn't that invalidate the warranty? If so, I would wait until exchanging and/ or repairing through Sony. Thanks for the help here everyone, much appreciated. Could easily be a US region quirk, but let's see if Sony will...

    Sony NW-ZX300

Converting all WMAs to FLAC will be my last resort. I could have a defective unit (missing software codec?), so I think I will exchange first. Thanks!

    Sony NW-ZX300

I changed to one of the Asian languages (top one, Japanese?) but no Tourist option appeared. In any case, I still can't play WMA. I even tried deleting, transfering WMA into the device using Win Explorer while in Japanese. No go. I will try deleting all the metadata in one WMA. If this...

    Sony NW-ZX300

No joy. Explorer drag -- still won't play. MediaGo CNTRL DRAG: Even though I selected DO NOT CONVERT FILE I now get both WMA and MP4 (AAC) versions of each song, and the WMAs don't play. Thanks for the suggestion though!

    Sony NW-ZX300

Hi abitdeef, that's encouraging! I have one of the first units to reach the US market. Stock hit on-line shelves here on December 5, 2017, Sony Support told me today to try updating the USB driver using the Sony USB driver download. I will post any developments here.

    Sony NW-ZX300

I have tried Win Explorer, MediaGo, Sony Music Center, Windows Media Player . . . same result. I also tried putting the files on the NW-ZX300 internal card. No difference. I will try holding "Cntrl" in MediaGo. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Sony NW-ZX300

Yes, I'm GMT -5 hours, Eastern US. My WMA files will not play on the internal card or the microSD. MediaGo decides the NW-ZX300 can't read WMA and converts to MP3 by default. Sony Music Center reaches the same decision and converts to AAC. FLAC isn't an option. Resetting the device did...

    Sony NW-ZX300

Hi Itman. I will be happy to try this this evening when I get home to my main PC that has all my music files on it. Thanks in advance!

    Sony NW-ZX300

I checked off "convert files that cannot be played on device to MP3" (or wording to this effect) in MediaGo. To my surprise, EVERYTHING went on the microSD card as MP3. So, I used Windows Explorer and then Windows Media Player to send some unconverted WMA content to the ZX300, but playing them...

    Sony NW-ZX300

Hi Rakuten. MediaGo and Sony Music Center play the WMA files with no problem. Sony says to reset the device (really?), and their NW-ZX300 on-line Guide says I should format the microSD card in the player before use. So, these are two things to try. I don't suppose taking 62 GB of music off...

    Sony NW-ZX300

Thanks Raketen, but my files are almost all WMA 192 kbps. Some are VBR, some not. These files don't work on my Sony Xperia Z2 either, but that's OK, I just convert them to MP3 for that device. The reasons I purchased the NW-ZX300 are that Sony explicitly says it supports WMA, plus SQ and...

    Sony NW-ZX300

Speaking of file formats, I use Windows and have all my music in WMA format at various bit rates up to high rate WMA Pro and WMA lossless. I get a "File format not supported" error when my new NW-ZX300 tries to play these files. I have transferred using MediaGo, Sony Music Center, WMP 11, and...
