Monkey Banana Gibbon 5 Near-field Monitor?

Just bought 2 of these for music listening at home. Did not impress me right out of the box. They are bass monsters for the size, and were also too coloured in highs for me. Spent almost an hour with my best known music, twisting the knobs for low and high frequencies, ended setting down by 3db...

So you are saying massdrop cups have less grain? Not true.

No, talking about massdrop version of Fostex biodyna headphones TH-x00. They are available in 3 wood variants, each noticably changes sound signature. You may read more in related thread.

Yeah. Koover, you need to try ebonies or teaks, seriously. They are meze 99's on steroids.

Tried to use Meze at home with R2R 11 so many times, but they can't get even close to modded TH-X00 performance. At the same time they are superb for portable and office use!

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Hey guys! Can anyone comparise lambskin and protein leather Ori pads in terms of changes in sound? I am going to find aftermarket pleather pads if they sound as good as lambskin. I really like the feeling of stock pleather pads, but don't want to trade soundstage and bass quality for comfort.

Again, I may reply with what fjrabon said about this piece: "the foam piece will help absorb the very highest THD from flowing back into the cup, which reduces harshness". There is nothing bad with installing it and it is fully reversable. Please tell us what are you impressions after trying it :)

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

That's fair :) I was very happy with my stock ebonies for 3 months, spent every free minute with them. Lawton upgrade made headphones sound a little cleaner in my opinion, but there is no must of doing this mod. I am glad you enjoy them that much!

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Nice review. The seal of these is increased with headband adjustment. They have low clamping force with no adjustment, but you may stick a pad from sennheiser headphones to the headband, so they will stop falling from your head and get better clamping force. It would look like that: You...

I've had these for a while and now can tell you... They are great for office, walks and business trips. They sound engaging even from iPhone and have a short cable with a mic and stop/answer the call button that is so great to have. Though this mic is of a pretty poor quality, it helps a lot. I...

+1, we would like to have the measures :) I am thinking of getting ZMF ORI pad for my ebonies too. They are the most neutral of all three wood variants of TH-X00, but you can never call them neutral. They have a great bass impact and very "physical" sub-bass feeling. They are more then just an...

    Audio GD NFB-11.28 vs R2R 11

I have bought a usb cable from AudioQuest (Pearl) a couple of weeks ago, didn't expect anything of it because I never thought a usb cable can make the sound better. But I've heard a little better bass control and a bit more details in high freqs. And continue to hear that on all my well-known...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Hi Hyde, I didn't find the headphones to become more V shaped after doing a mod. And bass definitely became clearer than stock. I think the reason was in the cups sitting loose and you just screwed them tight, or maybe same thing with pads. If you put your stock earpads on with a little gap...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

These headphones are not that easy to drive as you can think. Yes, they may sound loud from portable devices, but they will not come close to their best sound without proper amplification. Fostex drivers aren't easy, so your amp should be able to output no less than 3W at appropriate impedance...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Finally! I recieved the kit from Lawton and modded my pair of Fostex's with driver dampening! What can I say about doing the mod? First of all, that was a challange, because one of the little screws that hold a cup had a completely blured cross, so I couldn't take the left cup off! I tried oh...

No, thanks. I love how the wood sounds without dampening and don't know anyone who would want to pay $720+ to mod a pair of $500 headphones.

It should work with all dacs that don't have a built-in signal decrapifier. I hate that it costs $340+ in my local schiit shop! I hope someone would kick sсhiit out of their heads.

    Audio GD NFB-11.28 vs R2R 11

Doesn't it make music sound more analytical and less thick, or just cleans high frequencies?

    Audio GD NFB-11.28 vs R2R 11

Yeah, I'm kinda happy with what I have. So I'll better aim at buying a new pair of headphones for office and outside use, like meze 99 or so. Just thought that if such a little thing could do a noticeable signal improvement then it's an easy buy.

That's too expencive for a signal decrapificator. Jitterbug is $75 at my local store, is it worth it?
