Looking for a powerful headphone amp under $100
I like vacuum tubes, but am perfectly fine with solid state. What it has to do is be able to drive my power hungry headphones. I have a pair of orthodynamics that need lots and lots of power. Plus at least three other pairs of hungry headphones (not as hungry as the orthodynamics, but still...- ChopperCharles

Civilian 6n2+fu32 tube headphone amp
So is that a no? They're Yamaha YH-2 drivers. What would I need to drive them to ridiculous volume levels? Right now a Toshiba SY-665/SC-665 pre/power amp is doing that job, but I'd rather have something small and cute to bring to work. Charles.- ChopperCharles

The AKG K 250 (history, pictures, and a review of this forgotten dynamic K 340/K 241 hybrid)
They're a very, very good model. I'm listening to my pair now (Realistic Pro-50 branding), and really enjoying their openness, clarity, and detail. Charles.- ChopperCharles

Civilian 6n2+fu32 tube headphone amp
If I mod this amp, will it give me more gain with 12AX7s? I have a pair of power-hungry orthodynamics that really need a bunch of juice. Charles.- ChopperCharles

Realistic SA-102 as a headphone amplifier
So, the headphones I have are between 150 ohm and 600 ohm, so I don't think this little thing will do, unless the headphones are connected directly to the speaker outputs. And even then... maybe not. Charles.- ChopperCharles

Also, I find these headphones to be very muddy, bass-heavy, and with no highs at all. Wondering if I can fix that somehow... Charles.- ChopperCharles

Need help finding a driver for a pair of KOSS PRO 4AAA
Where can I purchase these drivers? I have HV/1 that has a bad driver, and I'd go ahead and replace them both with series 4 drivers if that means I can use the headphones again. Thanks. Charles.- ChopperCharles

Lots of old threads have "contents shifted" instead of the original post. Why? What happened to the content?
I'm trying to look up info on my Realistic Pro-50 headphones, which are re-badged AKG K250's. But the thread with all the information has 90% of the good stuff completely missing. Instead, the posts say "contents shifted". Check the thread...- ChopperCharles

Vintage Koss HV/2a's opened up!!! PICS!! + Need help w/ repairs.
If it's any consolation, if the driver in the HV/1 or HV/2 comes apart that easily, it means the adhesive that bonds the mylar dome to the magnet body has come loose with age. That driver would have buzzed annoyingly. Likely your original problem was in the headphone jack itself, or in some of...- ChopperCharles

80's Vintage Realistic Nova's.
I have a few different Realistic branded headphones, and the best-sounding are the Pro-10 (Re-badged NAD Model 12) and the Pro-50 (re-badged AKG K250). I love them both, but for different purposes. The Pro-50's are over-ear headphones that require a buttload of power to drive. The Pro-10s are...- ChopperCharles

Orthodynamic Headphones, Voltage and Watts
I don't know about all of the technological talk in this thread, but I do know that my Koss HV/1's modified with Yamaha YH-3 orthodynamic drivers need a TON of wattage to get to the same SPL as say a bone stock Koss HV/1... or really any other headphone I own. I've got a 65 watt amplifier...- ChopperCharles

Does anyone else have Audio Technica ATH-3 headphones?
I have a pair that I inherited from my uncle (he's still alive, but in assisted care, so he gave me all his Phase Linear gear, plus these headphones!) I had to scrounge on eBay for some replacement ear pads, and couldn't find gray ones but settled on some nice black ones. Had to use the...- ChopperCharles

I just snagged a pair of Realistic K50's (re-branded AKG K250's) for $11. How'd I do? :)
I haven't had opportunity to test them much yet, but they are EXTREMELY comfortable. Even more comfortable than my Audio Technica ATH-3's! Except for the pesky elastic bands being stretched out, so they don't sit on my head perfectly. But I can replace those with some thin hair bands. I'm...- ChopperCharles

What do you all think of the Sennheiser Momentum On Ear Headphones?
I'm looking for a budget headphone. Something that will pair well with an iPhone for portable use, and not need an amplifier. I listen to classic rock, Jack White, blues, and some electro-pop. (Ratatat, Daft Punk, etc). I will never, ever listen to classical. At first i was interested in...- ChopperCharles

I just snagged a pair of these off of eBay. The original ear pads are unfortunately toast - the fabric is no longer blue, and washing them gently by hand caused some of the fabric to... dissolve away. There are what looks like holes in the fabric now. There's a lattice there, but the fabric in...- ChopperCharles

Check out my headphone storage solution
Here's a nice artsy photo of the headphone holder: Here's it zoomed out. And here's a better pic where you can see my office setup. I know my walls are "kraft mac and cheese" neon yellow right now. I'm still putting things on the wall and spackling up old holes. Then...- ChopperCharles

Replacement ear pads for vintage Stanton XII (denim) headphones
I just got a pair of these, and they sound pretty decent and look really cool. They're going to be my portable phones. I've ordered a replacement plug (the original is shot and shorting the right channel unless I bend it *just* so), but my big problem is the ear pads. The fabric itself has...- ChopperCharles

New Member Introductions thread
Hi, I'm Charles (ChopperCharles). I'm active on AudioKarma, TapeHeads, and PHXAudioTape. I'm not *that* big into headphones anymore, as I work from home mostly, and can pump my stereo as I please. But I do use them occasionally, and I'm putting together a headphone amplifier rig to use on the...- ChopperCharles

Check out my headphone storage solution
I've found a certain type of bathrobe hook makes the perfect headphone holder. I had a few old brass-colored hooks in my closet that worked perfectly for holding headphones, and I scoured Amazon until I found a similar hook (Sadly home depot and lowes only have super stylized fancy hooks...- ChopperCharles

Need headphones I can't break
Vintage phones with big heavy-duty cords. The curly kind of cord, big and heavy duty. Vintage headphones are also often made of metal instead of plastic, with metal headbands and all metal hinges and such. I have a pair of Sic Sonic 101 cans that meet all your requirements... except they don't...- ChopperCharles

Realistic SA-102 as a headphone amplifier
I'm looking for a small headphone amplifier with tone controls, to use at work. I have the thought of using a Realistic SA-102 (or SA-150) mini amplifier. It's the right size for my needs, it's inexpensive, and the schematic is available...- ChopperCharles
