I have a pair that I inherited from my uncle (he's still alive, but in assisted care, so he gave me all his Phase Linear gear, plus these headphones!)
I had to scrounge on eBay for some replacement ear pads, and couldn't find gray ones but settled on some nice black ones. Had to use the plastic ring from the original pads inside these new pads, and attach with contact cement. The headphone jack also needed to be replaced, and I got a pretty nice one from parts-express. These headphones don't have a lot of bass, but they have a wonderful detailed sound, and they're EXTREMELY comfortable. I thought my Realistic Pro-50 (AKG K250) headphones were comfortable, but these are really amazing. I can wear them all day with no fatigue at all, no ear pain, no feeling like I need to get them off my head for a while. They're not the prettiest headphone in the world - dark gray plastic with a shiny metal band, but damn they sound good to my ears. They appear to be one of the founding fathers of the ATH series, and I very rarely see them on eBay. (And when they are listed they almost never sell).
I'm curious if anyone knows about these and loves them too, and whether there are any mods out there that might increase the bass a little?
Charles.
