I like vacuum tubes, but am perfectly fine with solid state. What it has to do is be able to drive my power hungry headphones. I have a pair of orthodynamics that need lots and lots of power. Plus at least three other pairs of hungry headphones (not as hungry as the orthodynamics, but still hungry).
Ideally, it'd run on 12v so I could also use it in the car, but that's not 100% necessary. (I have a jeep, and with the top off the stock stereo is barely audible)
I don't need the best of the best, but I do need something decent. My source is going to be either my iPhone or my portable minidisc player.
