The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Apparently I've missed the return window at BestBuy, so I guess I'll try the for-sale forum. I'll be sad to see them go, they are definitely an upgrade on my 598's, but the subbass on the Sundaras won me over.- FeedYourHead

Mostly neutral headphones with extended, elevated subbass
Wow, I really can't thank you enough for this suggestion!!! I've honestly been too busy enjoying these Sundaras to even respond. I also figured I'd wait till my Topping L30 was here to say anything definitively. The subbass quantity and quality on these are finally close to what modern music...- FeedYourHead

IMO, they should be offering these to any current owners for free, seeing as the standard pad is so poorly designed. As for me, mine are being returned as soon as I make it to the UPS store. They weren't close to being in the same class as the other cans i tested them against (HD-560S, HD598...- FeedYourHead

Avantone : Pro Planar
After more research it seems I may have misspoke in regards to Sundara. While there is still a subbass rolloff, it's supposedly not nearly as bad as it used to be, after stealth revisions to the earpads. I have a pair on the way to compare to a HD-560s, and I may end up comparing them to the...- FeedYourHead

Mostly neutral headphones with extended, elevated subbass
Thanks everyone for all these awesome suggestions!! As I'm trying to upgrade over my HD-598, which I quite like, It's probably going to take a headphone north of the $200 mark to accomplish that. I'm currently listening to the HD-560s and really enjoying them. I think they fit the criteria of...- FeedYourHead

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Yeah from what I've heard, the interfaces that are powered solely by USB aren't great for powering headphones, but interfaces with mains power are a big step up (at least with the Focusrite line).- FeedYourHead

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Yeah, these are better. Super close to the 598, as expected. A bit more treble at a certain frequency, and less so across entire treble range. It's something that sounds like it was needed, IMO. Never what I'd call sibilant or harsh, though. The midrange still sounds a bit more natural on the...- FeedYourHead

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Okay, so I found a remote control that was a bit wider than I wanted the final width to be (in my case 8.25" long). I wedged that in between the band and the cups, and I spent about 20 minutes blasting the headband with a hair dryer on high heat. My 560s are now nearly as "stretched to high...- FeedYourHead

I guess, but I don't think I'll get nearly the amount of movement out of plastic I'd need to make these tolerable. It's also not a problem I thought I needed to be worried about in the slightest; my Hd-598 are the most comfortable cans I've ever put on my head! Why would they change the mold...- FeedYourHead

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
So I was super hyped to come back from my run and find my 560s had arrived a day early! Unfortunately, my excitement didn't even last long enough to plug them in. [rant on] Holy hell, the clamping force! By far the heaviest clamp I've ever experienced. What would drive Sennheiser to make a...- FeedYourHead

This seems to be a pretty hard sound signature to find, so I figured I'd start a post on it. I currently own a pair of HD-598, as well as some KZ ZS10 Pro IEMs. I'm generally pretty happy with the 598, but would enjoy something that's a bit of an upgrade overall, as well as having a stronger...- FeedYourHead

SIVGA PHOENIX OPEN BACK WOOD DYNAMIC
Phoenix arrived earlier, clamp was ridiculous, but I stretched them and they feel okay. Earpads suck as expected, but my biggest problem with them is the bass is seal dependent, and my glasses break the seal. Even with my glasses off though, i wasn't really wowed with the bass like I thought...- FeedYourHead

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Hey these are in stock at Best Buy, my pair will be here Friday. I'll be comparing them to the HD-598 that I've been using for the past decade, as well as the Sivga Phoenix that just arrived. I'm generally happy with the 598, mostly looking for a bit more subbass.- FeedYourHead

I guess, i just don't see how it's helpful. It leads to situations like what we just experienced, a potential customer making assumptions based on something a completely different headphone does or doesn't do, just because they share a drvier type. Like all the people who swear off horns because...- FeedYourHead

Yeah, freak accidents occur, and I'll chalk it up to that until it happens to someone else. I am curious to know if any other owners feel that could be a weak point, and am also curious what the manufacturer response was. That's just not really true, on either count. Subscribing...- FeedYourHead

SIVGA PHOENIX OPEN BACK WOOD DYNAMIC
It's funny you say that, as I think the T60RP are one of the sexiest headphones out there; I almost bought them on looks alone. If the subbass was a bit better I would have. Any mods that help that a lot? Anywho, I ended up finally ordering the Phoenix last night. I was waiting for an earpad...- FeedYourHead

No, but you can hear driver flutter. Small physically? From the only pic I've seen of someone wearing them they looked ginormous! Also can you elaborate on what that means, soundwise?- FeedYourHead

That second part is probably more of a hearing test than a headphone test, I'd wager most of us over 30 can't hear much over 17khz.- FeedYourHead
