Sadly I think from the quote above "Serial nro was engraved on the plaque of fake IE800 leather case." it is not a given that engravings = legit.

I've heard a few of the fake IE800s and all sounded absolutely horrible. Not in the realm of a $100+ IEM even.   The IEMs themselves are very hard to distinguish from a real one, but the case is where you see a lot of skimping in the leather, foam, etc.

  I'm looking at the iDSD right now actually. Did a demo locally and it is a great little device, just not the cheapest at $499.   I can't believe I didn't flip the X Bass or the 3D switch, though. Oops.

It looks like once you get into the planars (HE-500, HD-560, LCDs) that it takes too much to go portable without spending at least $200+ or sacrificing quality. Hmm.   Perhaps I'll just focus on portable driving of dynamics for now. In that case the Cayin C5, JDS C5/C5D seem like good options.
