New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

I really don't know. I have never heard the 501 or any other Weiss DAC. Also, I haven't tried the DDC part yet. I'm not sure it really makes sense for me, because I can't say that I have a DAC that's "better" than the 204 (to connect it to)... But I'll try it one of these days.

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

You're welcome. If I remember correctly, Schiit accidentally used 50 ohm connectors in a small number of early Yggdrasils. I had one. When I eventually sent my DAC to Schiit for upgrades (maybe a new analog board at the time and/or a USB board), I asked them to change the connector to 75 ohm...

Hi. The yellow USB cable you see (with the wires sticking out) is a Lush^2 cable, made by Phasure. See https://stordiau.com/products/lush-2-usb-audio-cable. They also make a newer version, the Lush^3...

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

Attached is a pic of the BNC connector. It's an output only (not an input). I have never heard a Chord Dave. The best DAC I've had in my system is a Holo May KTE, and I'd say the 204 is different, but comparable in quality. With my USB sources, both DACs sound better to me when using these...

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

I have it set at 7.9 volts. I set it to 7.5 to start, and then dialed up to 7.9. It sounded good, so I left it there. I haven't had time to experiment much (yet) with different voltages.

That's what I'm using (Ferrum Hyspos) with the DAC. Sounds great. The DAC takes a 2.5mm connector.

Agree. I think the 204 is significantly better with a good power supply (rather than the way it sounds to me with the stock SMPS)...

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

Hi. I have. When I brought the 204 over to my headphone setup, I lowered the output level with the attenuation switches. It still sounds great to me. I'm using the balanced outputs on the DAC, but that probably doesn't matter (for what you're asking).

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

A few random thoughts: I think I have only seen a Yggy click once when the sample rate changes, not multiple times. Here's what Schiit says about clicking (at https://www.schiit.com/guides/dac-problems): Clicking When Changing Sample Rates/Pausing/Etc. 1. It’s totally normal for Bifrost...

Roon - Roon (Core or Server) always needs to be running, right. You can run either on Mac, Windows, and Linux computers (including some NAS devices). I have Roon Server running on an old x86 machine with an i7-4790 CPU (in a room where my audio gear isn't located), running GentooPlayer...

I would download LanScan on your MacBook Pro (from the Apple App Store). Link - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lanscan/id472226235?mt=12 Then run it to show all the devices on your network. Try to find the Red that way. Look for this in the Vendor column (in LanScan): If you don't see the...

Sigma Delta. On the product page it says: "It employs no less than four oversampling sigma-delta D/A converters per channel, operated in parallel for enhanced signal-to-noise performance."

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

Yep, thanks. I have mine powering the Weiss at 7.9 volts. I experimented a little (but not a lot). Once you set the voltage on the Ferrum, the device lets you make minor voltage adjustments without "rebooting." So when I tried 7.5 volts on the Ferrum (I think it was), I listened for a...

Hi. I tried the Weiss supplied power supply for a short while, and then hooked up a linear supply. To my ears, everything was much better with the linear supply...

Mostly non-HQP with the May... I love HQP and have been using it since 2014 with various DACs. When I got the May, I experimented with HQP and came to the conclusion that I prefer sending the May a native feed. To my ears (and in my system), using HQP to send higher rate PCM or SDM to the May...

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

Yes. I'm lucky to have a Holo May KTE as well. When I got the 204, I had both DACs in my main system for a few weeks. Then I moved the 204 over to my headphone system. I probably chose the 204 as the one to move only because moving it is much easier than moving the May. Both are great DACs...

New from Weiss - the DAC 204 IN STOCK A TTVJAudio.com

Hi. In my opinion, the DAC sounds significantly better with a better power supply. I first tried using the included switching supply, but hooked up a good linear supply after about 10 minutes or so. There was no going back. Currently using a Hypsos Ferrum that had been powering a fiber...

I think if you hook the May up to a device running an OS that allows you to see what's going on, you can check. For instance: I currently have a May connected to a Red running GentooPlayer. In GentooPlayer (running on the Red), I can either run the Systeminfo command in the web interface, or...

I completely agree with what SwissBear said. I use Diretta too, with GentooPlayer running on my Holo Red (Diretta Target) and also on my music server (an x86 machine), which is the Diretta Host. I mostly use the USB output on the Red, but I have other devices that are Diretta Targets too...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

I would say that it depends on the DAC you're using it with. Some DACs are better when fed via a particular input. Example - some DACs sound great via I2S, but nowhere near as good via USB. Other DACs sound great when fed with USB. Some DACs sound best via an SPDIF input. Etc. Did you...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

I think the Red would be a step up from a laptop connected by USB. If it were me, I'd send audio to the Red over the network, and connect the Red to the May with USB. Sounds great, and no PLL delay that way (versus connecting with I2S).

I totally respect your opinion, cosminbro. I have a Stack Link II, and in my system, both the Holo Red (via USB) and Magna Mano Ultra mkIII (via I2S or AES) are better to my ears.
