the answer is Simple: the quality sucks, the design sucks (they are ugly), they are all marketing. kind of like nike lately. people are not stupid, they see through it.

i am guessing sennheiser uses proprietary driveers with decades of R&D while other companies purchase/buy them from someone else

get Beats ... jk   i have Sennheiser HD19's, they are only $40 on amazon ... pretty good bet ...
