Hmmmm actually I have given it a go with a nice pure Silver cable i had handy and the difference from the stock cable is not just bass, its better control all the way through :) great advice ... hard to believe how good the X1 is second hand at £50 ...- Jonfairway

Oh yes you are right... the bass has tightened with a different cable ( the one that came with the X2HR in fact !!! ) not heard a cable change make that much difference before !! Thank you...- Jonfairway

That said... If I was forced to have only one pair of headphones at all for Films, music, and use without all my fancy amps... The X1 is pretty much as good as it gets .... I have several Senn's and the X series Fidelio's in my opinion are better value for money for what you get out the...- Jonfairway

Well if the X3 is that good ! it will do very well :) I got a pair of Original X1's yesterday ( mint condition for £50 ) and first impressions ! I prefer them to the X2HR ( shock horror ) They are more forgiving of poor recordings ( a lot like the LCD2 ( original non fazor version )...- Jonfairway

I will have to get a pair of HD650's sometime and give them a whirl :) I find that my X2's work best with my Dared valve amplifier ( modded also ) , They are a bit too "lively" on the Audeze Deckard The LCD's are lush and huge sounding on the Dared but cluttered ! I have some HD480iis...- Jonfairway

" EDIT: Nope. I removed the Wipe thingies again, the sound got too thin and a bit compressed. It work better if they are placed in the earcup rather than direct over the drivers. But still, I don't like the hassle. " probably depends on what they are being driven with as well of course :) I had...- Jonfairway

" Well I just did that with the X2s, I put some cotton wipe thingies (they are almost the exact size of the driver) over the driver, in this case 1 for each driver and without a HD 25 felt pad and I must say it works as a charm, better than any EQ. That said, still more sibilant than the X3s...- Jonfairway

" And if I have to mod a HP to like it, than it's probably not a good purchase in the first place. " Can't say I have many HP's I havent modded in some way to improve ( to my tastes at least ) over the years ! Even my LCD 3's are modded a little to improve the mid bass responce. Can't say my...- Jonfairway

I forgot how easy it is to post a blank reply on here by accident ... lol We all have different likes and dislikes.. Well that was all very interesting :) 77 pages of info :) I know this is gonna throw a cat amongst the pidgeons so to speak but The X2HR ( one of the very many headphones I own ) can be modded to tame the slightly annoying metalic sibliance it has with some recordings very easily :) I seem to...- Jonfairway

Audeze Deckard - class A amp, USB DAC
Hello folks ! Have a good few years on my Deckard now ..well and truly used as they say and very happy still with its performance :) well worth it if they come up second hand at £200 or so ... not going to get much better for double that amount... its amp section is quality... and heats the...- Jonfairway

Would love to help there but alas I am not familiar with the Matrix amplifier.... have however been enjoying the quality of the Deckard now for months and have not felt the need to upgrade which is a first for me !!! The L2 is a pretty good choice for Films etc, but better still is the HD650 and the Philips X2 ... always nice to have a full impactful bass and bigger soundstage for films.... but yes the L2 is Good too :)- Jonfairway
