I upgraded to premium as part of a free promotion...wow, what a difference. I think if you have good headphones and listen to spotify for the majority of your music, premium is a must. Otherwise, the headphones are simply underpowered, and you aren't getting the bang for your buck. ATH M50's...

You can change the quality on spotify, but only if you go premium. With premium, you can get 320 kbps, which is quite good.
