    SONY MDR-V6 DETACHABLE CABLE MOD

I finally got around to doing this. I am happy with it, though I need to touch up where my file scratched the paint a little. No biggie, these are my knockin about headphones anyway.     I used radio shack part# 274-0249. It has a very solid grip on the plug.

Yukondano2, the Sheepskin pads are greate, they're very similar to the stock pads in feel and sound, but they are much much more durable and have no adhesion to bare skin.

    SONY MDR-V6 DETACHABLE CABLE MOD

Hello,   I would like to add a detachable connector to my 7506s.   Does it matter if I use a 4-conductor vs 3-conductor jack on 7506s?

Pearstone Replacement Earpads vs. Original Earpads for Sony MDR-7506 & MDR-V6 *** Pictures ***

The depth of the Auray   Jim, the Auray pad looks to be the same depth as the original pads. The diameter of the opening looks to be just a wee bit smaller.. like ~1/8" less wide and tall. The padding on the inside feels almost imperceptibly firmer...and that could be due to the shell...

Pearstone Replacement Earpads vs. Original Earpads for Sony MDR-7506 & MDR-V6 *** Pictures ***

After trying and not liking the Velour ones, I went with Auray sheepskin on my 7506s and I love them. To me they sound very similar to the original pads, but feel much better on the bare skin. After many months of use they show no signs of wear.

I'll elaborate... I did a lot of A-B testing with the original pads and velour pads, like setting up tones that alternate from left to right that I could listen to with one of each pad on.   In the end I found that the velours leaked in outside sounds in the mid range. I could turn the volume...

When I tried out the pearstone velour pads, I noticed a loss of isolation. I went with auray sheepskin pads and am very happy with them.

Makes sense... velour pads -> less isolation -> certain frequencies leak + you turn up the volume.

Side note: Today I received my Auray Sheepskin earpads for v6/7506. They're well worth the money in my opinion! They are a stouter material than the plastic Sony pads and they seem to seal a little better.   I have tried out the Pearstone velour pads in the past and found that they bled in too...

Is this a good replacement cable, or is there something out there in the 1-meter range with a 90-degree plug I could use? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885586-REG/Remote_Audio_7506sc_Replacement_Straight_Cable_for.html

Selfish here, but I'd like it if Sony decided to keep the lineup, but raised the price some. :)   I currently have two sets of 7506's... one is pristine and seldom used except when I occasionally do sound design for multimedia projects.   The other has been de-stickered and bass-ported (1mm...

    Sony V6 Mod: Bass(No Earpad)

Thank you for the info.   I did try the velour pads and returned them when I noticed they had less isolation in the human voice range.   I'm going to do the mod and try it out.

    Sony V6 Mod: Bass(No Earpad)

Hello kimvictor, I'm hoping you could answer a question for me about this mod. I want to try it out, but the noise isolation (esp in the human-voice range) on my 7506's is pretty important to my enjoyment of them. Does this mod effect isolaton in a noticeable way to you?

Cool! If the cups are otherwise the same (depth wise), I bet one could fabricate a similar panel with holes (and spacers) that fits in there... should be easy enough to experiment with.

Quote:   I'm really interested in doing this on my 7506s. I really dont need the coiled cord. Could you share any of your references that you went by to do this? Also, what plug and cable are you using now, and do yo have any noise artifacts if you twist the cable etc?
