Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
I'm sure this has been touched on in the 550 pages but looking for impressions on cables. I ran a Toxic cable when I had my LCD's but haven't looked much into changing up the cable on my 900's. Not looking to increase low or high end just improve overall sound quality "if possible". The other...- DenonBeaver

Very cool. Give the Soloist at least 25-50 hours of burn in to get to the sweet spot.- DenonBeaver

I should have been more clear. The 900s match will with some higher end tube amps but in the price range he referenced I think you are much better going SS.- DenonBeaver

I ran the Lyr when I first got my 900s. Not horrible but definitely not the ideal amp for the 900s. I sold the Lyr and went with the Soloist after a ton of reading. Its the perfect complement for the 900s would highly recommend. Stay away from tube amps, listened to the Woo Wa22 and it sounded...- DenonBeaver

I tried the lawton angle pads on my 900s and was back to the stock pads within a day. The lawton pads create more space between your ears and the drivers which can create in increased sense of soundstage the drawback is you lose the intimacy that the 900s are so great at. It felt like I was 10...- DenonBeaver

I'm always hesitant when it comes to EQ for example I've played with various EQ setting on the T1's and always end up going back to neutral. The 900s on the other hand are always ran with EQ and I love it. I don't tweak the EQ to favor one section of the sound curve more I simply EQ everything...- DenonBeaver

I had the LCD2.2s and found the mids veiled while in all honestly felt the entire sound signature veiled to some degree. Everyone always quotes the 900s as lacking in the midrange but that has never been my impression, everyone hears things differently I guess.- DenonBeaver

Listened to my 900s thru the Woo Audio Wa2 amp this weekend and it was the worst I had ever heard the 900s sound. I would highly recommend staying away from that amp if you plan to pair it with the 900s- DenonBeaver

I had the same mindset as you initially. I reached out to Drew at Moon Audio and he said the Soloist produces a much more refined sound compared to the SL and that Stepped attenuators are always a better sound. As the signal only travels through 1 resistor. Verse with wiper control the signal is...- DenonBeaver

Just received the Burson Soloist today and must say combined with the TH900s it's the best headphone/amp combo I've heard. I think my journey is done (famous last words)...- DenonBeaver

Lawton Angle Pads Quality: I installed my Lawton Angle pads last night. I haven't measured but definitely more thick then stock but not to the degree of LCD pads. Quality is great, no fostex protein leather but still very nice and comfortable. Sounds: The increased thickness of the pads...- DenonBeaver

Very good review comparing the V200 and Soloist paired with the 900s. Spoiler the Soloist is hands down the winner but that's just one guys opinion. http://www.head-fi.org/t/653932/item-audio-burson-soloist-fostex-th-900- DenonBeaver

Anyone have any comparisons running the Burson Soloist versus the Soloist SL on the TH900s? I'm using the Lyr currently and feel like it's a little too hot for these cans. I've heard great things about the Soloist w/ these cans but with their low impedance it seems on paper like the SL may be...- DenonBeaver

Yeah I see this as a fun experiment if I don't prefer the sound no biggie. I ordered the lawton angle pads versus the two u referenced above. I believe they r less aggressive then the audeze and stax so we will see.- DenonBeaver

You should give the Angle and Alpha pads a try on the 900s. If you don't like them I can swing over to Gresham and pick them up from you- DenonBeaver

Received my TH900's today really amazing looking cans. Compared to my LCD-2's they are a completely different animal. Much more upfront presentation where the LCD's sound like you are 30 rows back from the music. The TH900's are in your face but with still amazing soundstage. The LCD's...- DenonBeaver

Just ordered the TH900 from Headroom (couldn't pass up the $1,500 price tag). My primary set of cans are the LCD-2 rev2.5 I also have the Denon D5000's but those don't get much use these days. Have a few questions: I've always thought the LCD-2's warmth made the sound somewhat veiled. How...- DenonBeaver

Trust me I'd take a screen shot of the output option on the driver control panel setting but don't want to install there driver again.
