DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
Hello, That's probably a wise decision. I know I still have not out grown my HD800's!! One thing to consider is doing the French mod (or SuperDupont Resonator as it is also called). The next big thing you can do for your HD800's is hardwire them. The connectors are really bad and hardwiring...- bigfatpaulie

What's the best amp for HD800
Hmmm... You're probably right. I think you best send me your DAVE and it's no longer needed. I wouldn't want it cluttering up your desk.- bigfatpaulie

DNA Stellaris
The Abyss and Stellaris is an excellent pairing. Excellent. World class in fact. BUT and this is a BIG BUT, the Stellaris is better paired with HD800's, HD600's or Utopia than the Abyss and the Abyss is better paired with bit arse Class A beast than the Stellaris. Basically, it's a great...- bigfatpaulie

It's a great combo. Keep in mind that the characteristics of the headphones will remain, regardless of the amp. For example, if a really big head-space is a priority for you, the Focals may not be the choice but if resolution is important they are probably the best there is.- bigfatpaulie

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
After all these years, how is there still confusion. Stop spreading non-sense people. Balanced is not universally better. Your headphones DO NOT sound better "balanced". Your HD800's don't know or care. One has a cool looking plug to dazzle your friends, the other looks phallic. That's...- bigfatpaulie

The 3 heavy weights and other audio myths... Abyss VS Utopia VS LCD4's
For me, with the HD's the Stellairs is the best amp I've heard and the DAVE is the best DAC I've heard. That's never changed.- bigfatpaulie

The 3 heavy weights and other audio myths... Abyss VS Utopia VS LCD4's
My 4 year impression is that the HD6X0 and HD800's are still pretty much the best headphones money can buy, so long as you have the right stuff behind them. These other really expensive headphones come and go but my HD's are forever. At least, for me. I also think that everyone is different...- bigfatpaulie

Out of interest - what is a "Stellaris Special"? Is it a regular Steallaris that has been upgraded, and if so, when was that done and by who?- bigfatpaulie

Woah! Colour me flattered :) @ogodei Good memory! Yeah I had both the AB-1266 (the original version, pre-Phi) and Stellaris #2. I don't know if Donald has made any change to the Stellairs as he did make periodical updates/upgrades to the Stratus. I can't recall reading anyone having an...- bigfatpaulie

Bricasti M1 DAC impressions.
I'll say this: the M1 is a really fun DAC. It's lively and energetic. Definitely one of the more toe-tapping devices out there. As with any piece of audio gear, personal preference and system synergy are the single biggest determining factors on if you will like it or not. The M1 is a top...- bigfatpaulie

Bricasti M1 DAC impressions.
Those things you are talking about - details, separation etc, the technicalities - all relate to good sound. What changes is in the interface (SPDIF, TOS-Link, USB, etc) and formats (MP3, FLAC, MAQ, etc). Good sound is the same as it was 30 years ago. I switched from a M1 to a DAVE + DNA...- bigfatpaulie

Bricasti M1 DAC impressions.
I've had an M1 and DAVE and currently have a ADI-2. The M1 is an outstanding DAC - no amount of time will ever take that away from it. Interfaces change, good sound doesn't.- bigfatpaulie

The FREAK is an amazing, innovative, ground breaking watch. Ulysses Nardin is such a miss-understood brand in North America. It's a work of art, and easily miss-understood in such a young market. As such, they are generally an unbelievable deal when then come up. For me, personally, if I was...- bigfatpaulie
