Hopefully these are priced similarly to the SRH440 & SRH840. My 840s are probably my favorite closed headphones I own. I can't wait to hear what Shure does with open back. As long as the price isn't insanity I will certainly want a pair of the SRH1840s.

You'll be super happy with the SRH840. They have great detail and balance, Rush will come alive with them. Try Rush in Rio with those cans. You will enjoy yourself thoroughly.

Having both, I'd also recommend the Shures. The HFi-580s are a little to bass heavy for Rush IMHO and the Shures will still deliver enough bass for other genres. You can't go wrong with SRH840s.   Quote:

Open isn't a bad or a good thing, it's a preference thing. Open headphones generally have a wider soundstage. However, they let sound in an out. If you are worried about bothering people in your surroundings, or you listen in a noisy environment, closed headphones would be a better option for you.

For rock, and especially for rock that can be complex like Rush I enjoy listening to it through my Grado SR225s. They let little details shine through that I missed out on before. Really fun pair of headphones to listen to rock music through. They also have a nice bass note for other genres...

If you watch the Amazon Used - Like New section and can stretch to 60, you can get a pair of SRH440s and they're comfortable and sound good.

Listened to "The Wall" through my new Grados this weekend. Was like listening to a whole new CD. After I read about someone else listening to it in the Grado Fan Club thread I had to try it myself. It did not disappoint.
