AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
Just received the first batch of Legato II rev 2. They all go to my friends who ordered them through me since Nov/Dec last year. Rev 2 adds the following: 1. Idle detection so that when no music is streaming and while the PC is left on, the unit will timeout after about 18 mins and...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
I'm the OP and have been in constant contact with Pat for the past 1+ year. We just exchanged 8 emails today. So I can pretty much answer all the questions raised in here. - There have been different revisions of the original Legato. The jitter on the latest Legato is about 10 times...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
The patch PCB for my Legato II has arrived and I just installed it myself yesterday. It is not something one can easily do himself unless he has the soldering skill to do it. The patch PCB is to allow the Legato II to charge the battery even when the computer is powered on all the times but...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
Quote: Yeah, I spent quite a bit time working with Pat on the SBT+EDO issue with regards to batt charging on the Legato II. He bought a SBT just for this part of the testing. I was off for vacation and haven't heard back from him for 2 weeks. Last I know he was working on a new PCB, not...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
I only tried GT2 on my Legato vs a couple PC USB cables. The GT2 does improve the sound. I've not tried other USB cables. I've heard good reports on WireWorld and AudioQuest USB cables.- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
I've not used a PC for testing the Legato II. My past experience has told me that there is a lot of variation in sound when you used a PC. The software player you used, the optimization of the OS, etc., can affect the sonic quality. Some people said the best sounding platform is Linux Ubuntu...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
Quote: I think the wait time is likely to be over one month. Currently, 5 of my friends have pre-orders with Pat, so he is busy trying to fill the orders. I don't know how many more folks are in the waiting list. I think Pat mentioned to me that the initial batch will be a run for 25...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
Quote: 1) Correct 2) I have been using SBT+EDO as source, which I did not mention in the review. The Legato II has cleaner and taughter bass when feeding the D2 via BNC coax. It also sounds more vivid. That's comparing to USB input to the D2. My current U2 mod is using the ultra low...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
Quote: I don't have OR5 to compare with. Does anyone know how OR5 compare with Berkeley Alpha USB? They're in the same price range. I can only tell you that the Legato II is better than the Alpha USB. Alpha USB has a hint of glare on certain vocal tracks I played. It also doesn't...- Viper2001

AR-T Legato II USB-S/PDIF Converter
I have the privilege of being the first customer to receive AR-T's Legato II USB-S/PDIF converter. For those who has no idea what the Legato is, it is a reference grade redbook (44.1K) transport for the computer audiophiles. Legato II continues with the same tradition as a redbook only...- Viper2001

Anedio D2 DAC release
Quote: Sub-1ps, but didn't say what freq range they measured from. Crystek CCHD-957 measures 0.5ps from 10Hz - 10KHz. If measured from 1Hz - 10KHz, that would be nearly 5ps. I think CCHD-957 would likely be the clock they use, if they really want to put some decent clock in there...- Viper2001

Hi guys, my Legato II has arrived. Still charging the batt. Need more time to compare the sound to the orginal Legato. So far I heard improved clarity and a darker background. Perhaps I should start a new thread on this.- Viper2001

I'm using LCD2 rev 2 with D2. I had the HD800 and compared it to LCD2 side by side for a couple of months and eventually sold it in favor of LCD2. I found LCD2 having much less driver colorations, with faster, stronger transients and impacts. The other reference pair I have is the Stax...- Viper2001

Quote: I've learnt over the years that certain things are not quite measureable in the traditional sense. For example, I told Pat @ AR-T that there is a hint of glare on vocals for the Legato. He acknowledged what I heard, and believed the cause was from the noise in AC. I replaced...- Viper2001

I read the FIFO thread on DIY Audio the other day. The work Ian did is so pro, it is a rarity. The concept is not new though. PS Audio Genesis Audio Lens, and even SqueezeBox has the same idea. Just think of SqueezeBox as a Wi-Fi DAC, with a FIFO in between. The parts where the...- Viper2001
