I too am interested in trying out some headphones but do not think I will be able to make the meet.  Is there actually anywhere to audition headphones  in London?  

I am thinking of grabbing the M-Audio Q40's for the time being as the cable is interchangeable, what are everybody's views on these phones?

2 headphones would be an option in the future maybe but right now I cannot afford such an outlay. Budget is ideally £150 tops, I will make considerations on higher priced phones if they meet all requirements I've looked at a lot of the Audio Technica range and know many rate their products...
