Alternatives to Etymotic HF2
Thank you both. I'm going to bide my time and see if any HF2 come up cheaply on ebay, otherwise I'll probably bite the bullet and buy it full price! (Although seeing a PFE 112 go for £60 the other day was very tempting!)- NRWalker

Alternatives to Etymotic HF2
Hi all, I was very happy with my Etymotic HF2 that I picked up for £30 second-hand a year and a half ago, but sadly the cable has broken and the right earpiece isn't working properly. My first thought had been to get a replacement. However, I'm sure that new IEMs have been released and...- NRWalker

Disclaimer This is my first attempt at a review so please don't be too harsh and, as ever, these views are my own and anyone is welcome to disagree! The candidates First up is the Audio Technica AD700, a pair of headphones regularly mentioned on these forums and especially noted for...- NRWalker

SRH-840 vs AD900
I own the AD700 and SRH840 and use them to listen to a range of music and play counter-strike competitively. I guess that qualifies me quite well to answer your question... Pros/cons of the AD700: for some genres of music I'd give this the slight edge over the Shure and find the airy sound...- NRWalker

New: Sunrise Sw-Xcape Ver 2
They say they've changed the "box and housing"... not exactly clear what that means, but looking at the photos, I think they mean they've stuck a new logo on the carry pouch. If they've also adjusted the drivers housing that can only be a good thing, because I had a problem with mine coming...- NRWalker

Try changing the stock tips for the bi-flange. For me it sounds totally different - the bass is less bloated and everything sounds much more balanced. Does anyone else have the same experience?- NRWalker

New: Sunrise Sw-Xcape Ver 2
I've had the Xcape V2s for almost a month. I must be getting close to the recommended burn-in time. I think the detail is there, but it's obscured by the heavy bass. I think this has improved with burn-in and the bass has tightened up somewhat. If I listen at slightly higher volumes than usual...- NRWalker

Sansa clip+ with sunrise xcape??
For the last few weeks I've been using the Xcape with a Clip+. Sunrise recommend a burn-in of 150 hours for the phones before they reach the best and I'm probably only halfway there, so take anything I say with a pinch of salt. So these are my thoughts: Separately, I think that both are...- NRWalker

Shure SRH-840 DAP compatibility; revival of the good'old sony DAPs?
No, in the end the second-hand Cowon D2 was bidded up to £75 and the Sony D-NE10 to £50. For that much I was able to get a brand new Sansa Clip+ and a pair of Sunset SW-Xcapes. Maybe not the best source, but a heck of a lot more portable!- NRWalker

Sound quality is not only up to the headphones.
I found this interesting. After recently getting a decent set of headphones I've finally realised how important it is to listen to something better than 128kbps mp3s!- NRWalker

Audiophile vs 'Gaming' headphones
RPGWizard, if you want portable Dolby Headphone, consider the Asus Xonar U1 - it's a USB soundcard that is meant to be quite good for its price - I've ordered one, but it hasn't yet arrived. OnceInABlueMoon, regarding your first question about the Logitech G930, I've used the G35 (which I...- NRWalker

Review by 'NRWalker' on item 'Audio Technica ATH-AD700'
AD700s have a reputation for being some of the best gaming headphones you can get for less than £200. This is primarily due to their wide and accurate soundstage (how well they position sounds in 3D space). While this is undoubtedly true, it would be a gross injustice to label the AD700s as...- NRWalker

Shure SRH-840 DAP compatibility; revival of the good'old sony DAPs?
I'm interested in the same question for my SRH840. I've read that some of the Cowon players might be quite powerful and I'm currently bidding on a second-hand Sony on ebay. Any advice would be appreciated!- NRWalker

Audio Technica ATH AD700
CoD has pretty awful positional sound in it. I suspect a good set of headphones will be underutilised. Have you tried them in any other games? I've been using my AD700s straight out of the laptop (while waiting for my Xonar U1 to arrive) in CS1.6 and they're still noticeably better than my old ones.- NRWalker

Sorry, I take back the ebay comment. I'd go with what the others are saying. Hope you find a decent seller! As far as a soundcard goes, I'm still waiting on my Xonar U1 to arrive - damn you Dell!- NRWalker

Headphones you regretted buying the most
I got the Logitech G35 off ebay for £40 and all I can say is thank god I only spent £40. That hunk of junk was relisted on ebay less than 3 days after purchase. Silver lining is that I made a slight profit on the resale- NRWalker
