I just grabbed a Yamaha CTX-S90 Preamplifier/Tuner at the thrift. It has a headphone out on it. Just wanted to know your opinions on using this preamp as a dedicated headphone amp, and what I should expect?

Wow, that's a bit discouraging. So no one thinks there is a chance in hell that this thing sounds decent? I wonder if it would be an improvement or a downgrade from a cheaper Aiwa receiver.   Can I get some more input, please?   Thanks..

Anyone know of Soundesign at all?

I went on ebay in search for a vintage receiver for some headphones. I decided to stray away from my old Aiwa receiver. I bought this item for 30 bucks. It's a Soundesign 5969 AM / FM Stereo Receiver / Cassette Recorder. Would this be any good to power some cans?

Actually, they really don't sound that bad. The bass just sounds very rubbery, like I'm bouncing a kick ball around. The mids are really pronounced though. They'd be fine if they were comfortable, but I can't even wear them for more than 10 minutes! Also, the 3.5mm jack is messed up I think...

Those are the older version of the DT 770 PRO's. The term "PRO" stands for professional, which is on your headband.
