Using a preamplifier as a headphone amp?

I just grabbed a Yamaha CTX-S90 Preamplifier/Tuner at the thrift. It has a headphone out on it. Just wanted to know your opinions on using this preamp as a dedicated headphone amp, and what I should expect?

Soundesign vintage receiver as a headphone amp?

Wow, that's a bit discouraging. So no one thinks there is a chance in hell that this thing sounds decent? I wonder if it would be an improvement or a downgrade from a cheaper Aiwa receiver.   Can I get some more input, please?   Thanks..

Soundesign vintage receiver as a headphone amp?

I went on ebay in search for a vintage receiver for some headphones. I decided to stray away from my old Aiwa receiver. I bought this item for 30 bucks. It's a Soundesign 5969 AM / FM Stereo Receiver / Cassette Recorder. Would this be any good to power some cans?

Bought DBI Pro 700 off eBay, received MB Quart?

Hey man, in response to your question in my thread that's similar to yours, yes I bought the cans off snapper46.   Yours aren't DBI's either, but they look to be similar. In any case, you got a decent deal. Here's the exact model of your cans I believe.  ...

I ordered DBI Pro-700, and got some random headphone...

Actually, they really don't sound that bad. The bass just sounds very rubbery, like I'm bouncing a kick ball around. The mids are really pronounced though. They'd be fine if they were comfortable, but I can't even wear them for more than 10 minutes! Also, the 3.5mm jack is messed up I think...

I ordered DBI Pro-700, and got some random headphone...

To be honest, I have no idea. These cans don't even sound good. They sound like they're built in a tin can. They are also REALLY uncomfortable. They are made purely out of rubber and when I take them off, my hair gets stuck to the rubber on them. It's horrible.   I'm pretty upset that I...

I ordered DBI Pro-700, and got some random headphone...

I ordered these off ebay, and I got some weird headphones that don't look like DBI's to me. They say "Telescan" on the earcups. What the heck are these?

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Quote: Because to be honest, the cmoy is a portable amp designed for people who want to listen to music on the go, hence the need to buy a new battery for it every 20 hours or so.   I'm not a very "on the go" type of guy, when I'm out of the house I'm out. When I'm inside, I'm...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Alright then man, thank you a bunch. I really really appreciate your responses.   I somewhat think it was a mistake to join this site, only because I come here asking questions and get condescending remarks from people who own thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment lol and mock my 75$...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Quote: See, I'm not sure if that's sarcasm, but I'm assuming it is. I'd really appreciate more constructive responses than that, if that is indeed sarcasm.   Here's a real Head-Fi secret though, that I thought you'd know. The DBI Pro 700's are actually 200 dollar cans, that are...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Quote: Thanks for your response.   What you are saying makes perfect sense if I was planning on listening to music and movies only. But I'm an avid FPS gamer and like having my sound card's surround features. Sure, I'm not playing sound out of a hi-fi unit, but it's a good sound card...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Quote:  I wouldn't know what to look for. For all I know I could skim right over a 1000 dollar amp and won't even know it.   @hodjy, thank you for the suggestion. I'll look into that unit more. However I believe I'm looking for something of a bit more quality and oomph. I don't want...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Quote: I do have an old Aiwa AV-X200 5.1 receiver, but all it has are red and white in's. I can't use that to emulate surround sound on my headphones, can I? If I use EAX in games, the emulation will be gone by the time it goes through my receiver and then to my headphones I'd...

Best amp under a budget of 75 USD

Those are the older version of the DT 770 PRO's. The term "PRO" stands for professional, which is on your headband.

DPI Pro 700 or Denon D1000?

Ignoring any price difference, lets say they were both 150 USD, which can do you think is better for gaming? (In terms of soundstage, clarity, detail, mids/highs/lows, and comfort)

    Denon D1000 vs Ultrasone HFI-550?

Quote: What would you say about recabling the Denons? Are the HFI 550's worth it in a sense that I don't have to recable them, whereas the Denons pretty much need a recable to get their full sound potential?

    Denon D1000 vs Ultrasone HFI-550?

Quote: Thank you for your reply.     Which would you choose for FPS gaming straight out of a sound card?   I'm leaning towards the Denons just because I've heard from anyone who owns them that they're great. But the HFI 550's I can get for 70 USD, while I can get some Denons for...
