Best mids : hd555 or hd448?
I'm interested in finding out which would be the best as far as mids are concerned, not taking the price into account. I've had the 555s at a point, i like their mids. Does the 448 bring something else to the table? More detailed? Forward?- Shatter

Grado SR60i worth 110$?
Background: i already have Beyer DT440s and Philips SHP9000 (the top end philips). I'd really like something with much more forward mids and a very small soundstage, yet fairly good detail reproduction. I listen to just about anything, can't point out a specific genre. This is the only...- Shatter

Asus xonar ds volume & hf driving problem
Hello I have an Asus Xonar DS, with a JRC5332 opamp for front/headphone output. The headphones I'm using are Philips SHP9000s (32 ohm, but otherwise inefficient and very finicky with amps, a meier corda arietta drives them beautifully, they sound about on par with HD595, but I'm not...- Shatter

Blown HD555 drivers? "farting" under 100hz
Hello, i have a bit of a problem. I have a paird of Senn HD555s that i use at very reasonable listening levels. The source is an Audigy SE (I know, I know) From about 100hz downwards, i hear a "flutter", something resembling a farting sound. Worse than that, the "flutter" seems to remain...- Shatter

"Friday Night"
There's a Bonnie Tyler style song ( I know, I know, it's just that this... i'm obsessed with ) ... the lyrics contain a large amount of "Friday Niight" moaned in a melancholical voice ... Do you have any idea as to who might be the singer and what might be the name of the song? -
Startup: headphone store
I want to start a headphone/accessories store in (don't laugh, people here need headphones, too) Romania. The only models one can find locally are some overpriced Sony v300/v500/v600 headphones, but even those have a ~1 month waiting period. I was thinking about buying online and selling here...- Shatter

AKG K55 review
A $~hamburger system review System specs (this is downright funny, most people pay more for a volume pot than my entire "system" costs, but for the moment imagine i'm a homeless person : that should sort out most issues ) -Winamp 5.08 - mp3 (128-320kbps, both CBR and VBR) -onboard...- Shatter

What velour pads fit the DT660?
I've heard that the DT660s come with some cheap-looking and feeling cloth instead of the usual Beyer (DT770,880,531-like) velour pads. Can one get velour pads that fit the HD660s? Where? At what price? I haven't been able to find any, but JensL said that 531 pads fit the 440/660/860...- Shatter

unamped MS1s vs upscale system
A friend of mine, which once thought headphones are trash, bought a MS1 about 1 month ago. He was bewitched by those, and now, he, who never thought that spending more than $10 on headphones is wise, wants something better. He drives the MS1s mainly through a decent, but very cheap soundcard...- Shatter

Headsave is dead, vive le Headsave?
I was planning on getting a Classic... What else can I get, fully built, which offers the same quality, and is around $200, power supply included? I guess it would be powering a HD650 or Alessandro MS2 (quite different beasts, I know).- Shatter

MS1 expectations
I know this is something of a stupid question to ask,but... A friend of mine has ordered some MS1s to go with his Sony 20mW portable CD player and his CMI8738-based soundcard, which puts out about 60mW, if I remember correctly. I don't know any other parameters of those sources, only that my...- Shatter

Mystery Beyer ( I think) cans
I saw these weird cans in a movie...sorry, no picture. I'm really upset by the fact that i don't know how to get a screenshot of that damn Windows Media Player overlay . They look like the Beyer DT250-250s, only they are white with pads that seem covered in pleather (difficult to tell with all...- Shatter

Help me "calibrate" my expectations
I currently have a set of AKG K55s ($30) driven by the headphone out of some computer speakers, with the source being an awkwardly high SNR onboard They're sweaty, have a huge hole in the mids and are very screechy at all but a very specific volume (they're only very bright then ). Trouble is...- Shatter

Beyer 250-250, 770-250, 660... Which one?
First of all, sorry for my wallet. Damn it, why don't i just get some $30 Sony CD series? I need some closed cans which suit most genres, with emphasis on rock-related genres. Insulation of the outside word from their sound is more important than the other way around. Comfort is really...- Shatter

Headsave Classic / DT250-250
I haven't ordered the phones yet, but i've pretty much decided i need some kind of amplifier , as i'm reluctant to running even 32 ohm/high SPL cans out of a soundcard headphone-out, let alone 80 or 250 ohm ones, and my speaker headphone out is full of hum, hiss and the such. I'd be using the...- Shatter

DT250-250 quirks/tweaks/synergy
Well, after my previous "comfortable, closed, good midrange, any type of soundstage" topic, I've decided on getting the Beyerdynamics DT250-250s. I'd like to know as much as possible about them (and yes, I've read almost all previous posts). What cheap amp would do them justice? Would an...- Shatter

Ohhkay... this should prove difficult
I need some comfortable, closed, nicely isolating cans with a good midrange and good detail (soundstage means 0 to me), up to around $250 without shipping . Comfortable means circumaural, no pleather. I'd be driving them with a cheap dedicated amp (haven't decided which) , as i have no...- Shatter

Affordable MS1 amp?
I've never heard anything better than some really beaten up SR60s, but still, i want a lot of detail in my music and good attack speed. Smoothed out, blurry sound just doesn't seem right to me.Soundstage is the least of my concerns, and i like impactful, yet not too bassy sound. From what I've...- Shatter

Dunno what to do with my AKG K55's
They were 30 USD a year ago, and that's all I could afford. Are they worth the hassle of upgrading sound source/current source to the tune of 100 USD(say a AV710 and a good CMOY)? I'm currently driving them with an onboard CMI9738 (good DAC though... little hiss and nice dynamics) and ...- Shatter
