Help please. Haven’t bought new cans in years: <$400, over ear, wired, comfy w/eyeglasses
I want to thank everyone that responded. I think this will be a very useful thread at least for the near future. I know recommendation threads are kind of a dime a dozen…..but you folks ROCK :dark_sunglasses:- Rabco

Help please. Haven’t bought new cans in years: <$400, over ear, wired, comfy w/eyeglasses
Thanks for your input! I pulled the trigger on the HD600’s via full compass. Even tho there may be a wait of up to 1 month at this point in time, the savings of $70-$100 purchasing from FC over any other vendor I could find for new in box will be worth it. Delayed gratification is nothing new. I...- Rabco

Help please. Haven’t bought new cans in years: <$400, over ear, wired, comfy w/eyeglasses
I’ve been unable to find these cans (Ollo S4X) for less than $480. Not sure if my shopping super powers are waning. Seemst there’s been a recent uptick in prices on a couple models mentioned in this thread. Pandemic effect?- Rabco

I’m open to any legitimate suggestions that seem to fit my preference profile. I personally wouldn’t know anything about contrariness. Or grouchiness, either for that matter:k701smile:- Rabco

I’ve found NOS HD6XX for sale on EBay. It has been some time since the MassDrop, am I right? Should I be wary of buying something claimed to be NOS at this late of a date?- Rabco

Interesting website. I think they know their audience. Back in the old days I used to believe that there were reference standard products, then everything else. Cans are like any other piece of gear: they have an engineering sound target. Ollo explained their thought process convincingly.- Rabco

Excellent. Mining the the Beyerdynamic website revealed 3 different versions: the Edition, the Pro, and the Hz. Do you have a preference? Looks like at 250 ohm resistance for these phones, my Vali would make ~500mW. Opinion on driving capability match with my amp?- Rabco

I’ve read that electrostatics require more power…think my Schiit Vali +2 can drive these? The Sundara is a 37 ohm phone, and at that resistance the Vali should be making max ~1300 mW (1.3 W). With the phones 94dB, seems like volume levels with more than 1W should be plenty (I think I’ve done my...- Rabco

These I’ve heard of, and thanks for the reminder. I’ll revisit them as a refresher. I don’t abuse my stuff but….care to comment about your opinion on their potential longevity?- Rabco

Not heard of these. I’ll check them out. They sound like a good value. I’ve finally got the sound signature I prefer in the front part of the signal chain, which makes a neutral interpreter at the end a good thing. My experience has been feed ‘em well, and a good set of cans will reveal the...- Rabco

The HD600’s are definitely in the running. What surprised me a little bit was seeing how many were for sale in the market area of Head-Fi, which gave me pause. I thought I’d run this flag up the pole. My 555’s have definitely stood the test of time…..I do like the idea of brand loyalty (yeah, I...- Rabco

Help please. Haven’t bought new cans in years: <$400, over ear, wired, comfy w/eyeglasses
Like some other posts I’ve read, the current market has a myriad of choices. My current headphones are years old Sennheiser 555’s. They were purchased partly because the Sony’s I had back then seemed harsh to me. I’m not interested in earbuds, in-ear, etc as my ear canal openings are no where...- Rabco

Ideal Innovations is a Canadien company. Been around awhile. They have a good website. My 80 is 16 years old…..I did “retire“ it for a couple years, then put it back in the action. Solid piece of gear. The dac is ChiFi….a no op amp design…very happy with it. It’s a pandemic acquire as well. Not...- Rabco

As an afterthought I hooked up this piece of gear as a preamp. My sole intent in buying it was for use as a headphone amp. Using this as a preamp has truly transformed the sound of my system. I‘m using a Mac mini as the digital front end with AIFF files, an MHDT Lab Canary tube dac, the Vali 2+...- Rabco

Best low budget (<$200) tube or hybrid headphone amp March 2021
Ok, I *have* been trolling the search feature....but first a little background. I’ve been using an Elekit TU-882R with used WE396A tubes, for 12 years. A channel has disappeared. I’ve isolated it to the TU-882R itself, not my sources (a Mac mini, MHDT Canary dac) or the tubes. Spoke with Victor...- Rabco

Use of Sandisk Wireless stick in iOS for music
I am considering the purchase of a Sandisk Wireless Stick to hold my AIFF music files for my iPhone SE. My 'buds are Shure 425's which IMHO need equalization for playback on the phone to realize their potential. I use the EQ10 app to equalize and control music playback on my phone...- Rabco

Elekit TU-882R + Great Service=satisfaction
First the disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Elekit, or Sennheiser, for that matter. This is a tale of a return to headphone use after a several decade absence. I decided to go with an Elekit TU-882R kit. The kit arrived promptly. All parts accounted for, and packed incredibly well. The...- Rabco

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Nuforce uDAC USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
The heat may be an issue, or perhaps just a symptom. More on that in a second. Background info: I haven't seriously listened to headphones since my college days (yup, in the dark ages). I've decided to get back into them, did my research and bought a nuForce UDAC and some Sennheiser...- Rabco
