Neutral Closed-Back Options $1k CDN budget
I'm currently driving my HD600 from a Qudelix 5k, using Oratory1990's EQ presets to hit the Harman target (Oratory's wiki: https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/). I love it, and it's a pretty neutral setup. But I need a closed-back version to rival it, for when I'm at my...- Sonic Atrocity

Frustrated with ipod classic 7th gen (amp issues)
I can't use IEMs due to ear issues, so I'm stuck with closed headphones. The problem is that my (Rockboxed) iPod 7th gen cannot drive higher impedance cans, so I need a portable amp. I cannot find a LOD produced by a reputable company (like the Fiio F9 & F11 LODs), the LODs I do find are...- Sonic Atrocity

Neutral Amp for Ipod Classic 7G
The title. Just looking for a neutral portable amp that can run from the lineout or whatever it's called on the bottom of my ipod classic 7G. Also, should I be looking for a DAC/AMP and surpassing the onboard DAC on my ipod? Thanks. Your input is appreciated.- Sonic Atrocity

Etymotic HF5 vs. KRK KNS 8400
I'm an owner of the KRK KNS 8400, and as far as I know, they are generally pretty neutral (save for a weird mid bass hump). I've read the HF5 is bass light, but some have said the same about the KRK. Neutrality/fidelity is very important to me. Should I go for the HF5? Or should I be looking...- Sonic Atrocity

Nano 7th Gen Questions
https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/impression-apple-nano-7g-lightning-to-30pin-adapter.635800/ So, I read the review posted above. It seems somewhat promising, especially the part about the nano testing flat. Neutrality is really important to me. I'm thinking I will buy it, but should I? And...- Sonic Atrocity

Neutrality/Fidelity, Detail, and Passable Build Quality
As the title states, I'm looking for a DAP that is neutral (has a flat frequency response), is high detail, and has passable build quality. For a few years I've used the Sansa Clip+, but the headphone jack on it has failed so many times, and frankly I'm tired of buying them to only have the...- Sonic Atrocity

Neutrality/Fidelity
This is what I wrote in the HD600 Appreciation Thread (and I'm currently interested in the HD600 since they are often referred to as being neutral): When I think of "neutral" gear I don't think of gear that corrects for the dips and spikes caused by the very shape of my ear. After all, how...- Sonic Atrocity

ipod classic 5G and/or 5.5G measurements?
Been looking for some. Heard this is the superior player. Anyone know if it's neutral, and if it would remain neutral when plugging in 36ohm cans?- Sonic Atrocity

iTouch 5th Generation - Ken Rockwell Review????

Neutral, Transparent, Competent
Sorry for the second thread, but I decided to go fresh because my last thread wasn't very well written. I am looking for a player that is neutral (read: flat frequency response), transparent, very detailed, and able to drive 36ohm headphones (KRK KNS 8400) more than adequately. And...- Sonic Atrocity

Krallice - Years Past Matter
Want to check out something sophisticated, intelligent, well-written, nuanced, and meaningful in metal? Check out Years Past Matter by Krallice. This is one of the best albums I've heard in years. It's so dense with intricacies, subtle details, and nuanced song writing. If you've felt...- Sonic Atrocity

PA2V2 RMAA Measurements
http://rmaa.elektrokrishna.com/Various/Comparison%20-%20Gina%20-%20Headsix%20-%20PA2V2.htm Thoughts? I have always heard the PA2V2 was definitely not neutral, but here it measures completely flat.- Sonic Atrocity

Treated room for OPEN headphones? Seems bogus to me
So, yesterday I decided to take the afternoon and visit Headfone Shop in Toronto. Charles was really helpful, friendly, and informative. I checked out the Q701 (clipzip (rockboxed)>>fiio 12>>>AKG Q701) and they blew me away. Way better than my KRK KNS 8400 (as much as I love them). Afterwards, I...- Sonic Atrocity

Clip Zip Audio vs Clip+ Audio (ALL ROCKBOX)
So, I have a Clip+ and it's Rockboxed because of the playback flaws in the original firmware (I also appreciate the crossfeed application, and the parametric EQ). Anyhow, like all Sansa players the jack is failing, and right now I don't have the time to go across town (Toronto) to get it...- Sonic Atrocity

Studio Headphones 300 Bucksish Recommendations
My brother is going to be recording an album soon and he is looking for a pair of headphones that will be good for mixing and mastering. Flat FR Problems - Anti-Clip+
For a long time I have been seeking a flat frequency response in my portable rig. I currently have the KRK KNS 8400. They are the flattest headphones I could find within my budget. I thought that pairing them with my Clip+ (rockboxed) would be excellent. Unfortunately, I have had two Clip+'s and...- Sonic Atrocity

Scale The Summit - The Collective
I just listened to this album a week ago. I think it's really good. It seems to be a bit of an offshoot from metalcore and djent. They play really delicately and the bassist is really talented. Actually, he's probably my favourite part of the band. He's very tasteful and so is the drummer. ...- Sonic Atrocity

Unique and interesting! Good trance/techno/rave/electronic/ and even industrial
I am looking for good trance/techno/rave/electronic/industrial (but industrial not AS much). Anyways, I am looking for stuff that is innovative, or even if it's not innovative, just good. I notice there is a lot of metronomic garbage out there. Hey, I can live with the odd cookie cutter beat...- Sonic Atrocity

Double Amping - Clip+ (Rockboxed) to PA2V2
I have just been informed that I am double amping since my Clip+ does not have a line-out and apparently this is bad for my sound quality. Is this true? With 32 or 64 ohm cans should I just go straight from the Clip+? Which will have more sound quality? Or is there something I am not...- Sonic Atrocity

Most Neutral Amp
I am on the quest to achieve the flattest frequency response I can in a portable setup. I have a Clip+ (Rockboxed) which has a ruler flat response. Soon I am acquiring the Fischer 003 (reference cans). I currently have the PA2V2 made by Gary Ali. Don't get me wrong; the PA2V2 is an...- Sonic Atrocity

Want fidelity. Giving up the Pro 900...
As of late I am doing some research on new headphones. AFAIK a flat frequency response will bring me the greatest fidelity (ie: hearing what the artist and producer want me to hear). I actually made a thread on this that got quite a few replies...- Sonic Atrocity

How flat is the PA2V2, anyways?
I'm currently driving my Pro 900 with a PA2V2 with a Sansa Clip+ (Rockboxed) as the source. I'm looking into selling the Pro 900 and buying flat FR cans. I am well aware of the ruler flat FR of the Clip+. But how close to flat is the PA2V2 anyways? I've read that the mids are a bit...- Sonic Atrocity
