I can't use IEMs due to ear issues, so I'm stuck with closed headphones. The problem is that my (Rockboxed) iPod 7th gen cannot drive higher impedance cans, so I need a portable amp.

I cannot find a LOD produced by a reputable company (like the Fiio F9 & F11 LODs), the LODs I do find are questionable at best, and I want to bypass the amp on the iPod (doesn't double-amping sound kind of bad?). I also don't know what amp to get, and want a neutral amp.

What should I do? I'd love to be able to drive my DT 770 250 ohm, and HD 600s.

I am not familiar with the latest amps. Back in the days there were the Sony PHA-1, PHA-2, PHA-3 etc. I believe the PHA-1 was one of the first portable amp that allows the iPod to do Line-Out. I had the PHA-1 and it was good enough for me.

Oh and then I got the Centrance Hi-Fi M8 1st gen for my iPod. This amp way more power than the PHA-1 and had a few gain, impedence and tone control settings that I found very useful. I recommend looking for one of these on eBay.
