At the moment I have the AD700's , and the Xonar Essence ST is coming in the mail on Monday. I'm thinking, though, that the card is a bit overkill and that my headphones are the weakest link in the system. I'm thinking about upgrading to get the most out of my card so I can truly appreciate it...

The only difference is the ohmz required to power the two drivers. The AD700 is 32ohmz, pushing out less bass than the A700. Also, they both have different wiring, but I'm not sure which is better.

For now: an X-Fi XtremeMusic HOPEFULLY, by the end of the summer, a Xonar Essence STX and a Little Dot Micro MKII.

How do the AKG K271's compare to the AD700's?

I'm looking to buy a pair of headphones (obviously within this price range type of price range) that have a large sound stage, good bass, and good accuracy. I listen to rock, post-rock, acoustic/indie, downtempo, and chillout. I'm having trouble deciding between the HD595's and ATH-A700/AD700's.

I do not have an amp at the moment, but I'm thinking of picking up the little dot mark ii by the end of the summer.
