do you have a headphone amplifier, or not? and what OS do you use (OS X, Windows, Linux, this sort of matters (most cards only decently support two out of three))?

I do not have an amp at the moment, but I'm thinking of picking up the little dot mark ii by the end of the summer.

ok, you might look at a soundcard with an hp amp then

like the HT Omega Claro Halo, or external solution like the E-MU 0404 USB

advantage is, you get an hp now, if you love it, you can just stick to that, if you still wanna upgrade, you got great analog SQ for a new amp (or digital out, or whatever you need)
