Looking for sealed cans comparable to Senn 595

I own Sennheiser 595's (and 580's) which I'm very happy with. But I'm sharing an office now and I need something that's not going to leak a lot. I like the Sennheiser sound and I'd like something with a similar balance and non fatiguing. They need to be all-day comfortable which rules out IEM's...

    iPhone Headphone Compatability List

I made my own pair with Sennheiser CX300 buds. I really like these for portable use. They provide some isolation but not so much that I can't talk to someone. And they're comfortable to take in and out. The sound quality is respectable for the price. This was my first time soldering and I...

Looking for canalphones that don't go so far into ear

Thanks for the replies. Circuit City has the Sennheiser CX300 for $50 right now so I'll give those a try. Senn has never let me down. These are going to be hacked up to make iPhone headphones with the OEM cable so I don't want to spend too much in case it's a disaster.

Looking for canalphones that don't go so far into ear

I'm looking for something that is kind of a hybrid between regular ear buds and the Shure E5's that I own. I'd like some isolation/seal but I want the phones to be small and easy to take in and out without irritating my ear. Any suggestions?

    5G with HD-595 unamped?

He asked specifically if the iPod could drive the 595's to respectable volume levels.

    5G with HD-595 unamped?

Just to give you another validation.... 595's sound great with my iPods. I think my head would explode at iPod's max volume.

Help: Sennheiser HD 595 vs 580

    "Chillout" headphones?

I own Sennheiser 580's and 595's and listen to a lot of what I'd call chillout music (Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Bent, Thievery Corp). Both Sennheisers are excellent. The 580's are super laid back and listenable and if that is your primary goal they may be a better choice. But I prefer...

I want to shorten HD 595 cable

Thanks for the suggestions. I may go that route if I get cold feet about modifying the original and not easily replacable stock cable.

I want to shorten HD 595 cable

Elephas, that's exactly what I want. Was it difficult? I have no soldering skills but have friends who do.

I want to shorten HD 595 cable

Cute reply smarty pants. I do have the cable wrapped up but my primary motivation for messing with it is because of the huge adapter to make it a mini plug. I've attached a picture to illustrate the silliness of this adapter plugged into my iPod nano. Also, I'm pretty sure the 590 cable...

I want to shorten HD 595 cable

I'd like to shorten the 595 cable and terminate it with a mini plug as I use it mostly for portable use directly from an iPod. I had thought the cable was easily removable and replaced but apparently that is not the case. I'm wondering if it will be easier to open it up and recable it or to...

    External sound solution for iBook

Thanks for the link - that was interesting. My takeaway is that the analog is flawed though not terrible while the digital output is quite decent. As a side note, I sniffed my network traffic to see what was really being sent to the APX. Regardless of the orginal format of the music...

    External sound solution for iBook

I triple the APX recommendation. If you drink the Apple cool-aid and use iTunes, iPod and the APX is just all works together so well. A side benefit of the APX is that it gives me an ethernet port near my entertainment center that I use for the XBox. (Note: this only works if you are using...

Canz3D for the Mac - awesome!

http://www.midnightwalrus.com/Canz3D/ I discovered this last night and I'm extremely impressed. It does the best job I've heard of moving the soundstage from in my head to in front of me. It makes for a more natural listening experience. I've tried other crossfeed/delay filters (in my...

Senn. MX550s: with or without RS foamies?

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=33-376# Ditto the recommendation to buy a bunch. This link happened to be in my history because I'm going to RS this afternoon to buy more because I lost the original set I bought.

iPod -- Fifth Generation and Beyond: Trends?

My crystal ball says Apple makes a splash with the 5g. I think WiFi for music transfers and streaming to an Airport Express. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Who would get Shure E4C @ $299.99 MSRP?

It's pretty tough to justify that price considering the E5 can be had for around $350.

Any Shuffle alternatives for combined USB drive capability?

Thanks. Only the Creative and BenQ appear to be available in the US. The BenQ only goes up to 256MB so that leaves the Creative. The 1GB model is only slightly more than the Shuffle and looks like a nice player. I prefer the internal, rechargable battery of the Shuffle and the iTunes...

Any Shuffle alternatives for combined USB drive capability?

The appeal of the Shuffle to me is that it is also a USB drive that plugs directly into the USB port without needing an additional cable. I hate the lack of a screen. Are there any alternatives for very small MP3 players with a male USB jack?

    Jazz + Headphones

I listen to jazz often and find the HD580's to be magnificant. I haven't heard any of the others you are considering. I also own Grado SR80's and find them particularly ill suited to jazz. I also don't like canal phones for jazz, or really any music that captures a real acoustical space. I...

    just got Shure E3C

The E5 definitely has more bass than the E3. I haven't heard the ER4 but I think they are universally reported as having less bass than the E3 from people who've heard both. Regarding the seal, you may not need to stick them as far in your ear as you think. That was my mistake. With the grey...

credit card limit just raised need some suggestions!!!

I'm not going to tell you whether or not to borrow money. It's your life. But I will tell that from a credit rating perspective it is unquestionably better to get a new credit card then to max out a current card. The fastest way to tank your credit score is to max out your existing cards. $5000...

I was shoving E3's way too far in my ear

I received a pair of E5's today and tried all the different plugs. I was surprised to get a very different fit with the E5's compared to the E3's which I already owned. The shape of the E5's only allows them to be inserted but so far in the ear. I had been inserting the E3's much further in my...
