Balsa woodies?
Has anyone experimented with balsa woodies? I'm undecided if the softness of the wood would make phones sound great or horrible. it seems to me that a balsa enclosure would sound similar to an open phone. Plus the material is super easy to work with. You could probably woody a grado with a...- lostspyder

A Grado story - from hate to love
So I've been avoiding Grado's since I've been into headphones - they were ugly, looked overpriced, ugly, seemed fanboyistic, known to be uncomfortable and ugly. Up to date, I've tried Senns, Beyers, AKGs, EQs and ATs, but only really liked ATH-AD's and DT880. A few weeks ago, I had found a...- lostspyder

Little Dot II questions
I just got a little dot II - It's amazing. I used a PIMETA before this and it was nice, but the LDII is so smooth and lucid. Anyhow, to the point, I have a few generic questions: 1) It gets really hot (as in I can touch parts of the enclosure for only a few seconds, and I'm a 'chef'). Is that...- lostspyder

Any way to reduce the microphonic effect of Skullcandy Ink'd
I picked up a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd ear buds dirt cheap and they are alright for what I need them for, but the microphonic effect of the cord is killing me. Is there any reasonable way of reducing this short of recabling them (a waste on 7$ buds)?- lostspyder

Leaving a wallart on?
Should I be leaving my wallwart 'on'? Ive got a PIMETA and the switch turns only the PIMETA off, but before the switch is a big 4700 cap and a pseudo TREAD which the wall wart supplies. So the "TREAD" is always "on". Should I make it a habit of turning off the wallwart. Is it wasting a lot of...- lostspyder

Millet or SOHA Hybrid
I'm using a pimeta right now to drive my dt-880's. I've got an itch to build something new, and have always been fascinated by tube amps. Plus ive heard that the beyers benefit a lot from tube amplification. So it comes down to this - Millet Hybrid or SOHA Hybrid. I want to keep the cost under...- lostspyder

Beyer pad dying
Has anyone dyed their beyer velour pads? I got a pair of dt770s off ebay and the pads are disgusting - I washed them so they are clean at least but they are still all yellow - so I want to dye them. I was thinking hair dye, but does anyone have a better idea? Also, what is "darthing" I hear a...- lostspyder

AV710 - are simultaneous outputs possible?
I'm thinking of getting the infamous AV-710, but I need two outputs - optical and a line out - because I don't want to switch software around to switch from headphones to speakers. My on board sound allows for me to use both at once (optical and line out). Is it possible on the AV-710...- lostspyder

My PIMETA
I just got done soldering, assembling and testing my PIMETA. It was my first time soldering so I was terrified of burning something up. Its an AD843/823 based amp and instead of BUF634, there are HA3-5002's (cause BUF634 can't be sampled). My DT-880s sound great on it, it really 'smooths'...- lostspyder

Linear Regulated power vs a big cap
I just got one of my regulators in the mail, assembled it and it helped some to eliminate the drops from my wallwart, so I installed a 4700uf cap over the inputs, and the AC ripple was gone and all that was left was 200mv on both the output of the regulator and the input (they looked identical...- lostspyder

Ponoko - It seems like 'we' could do a lot with it
http://www.ponoko.com/ I'm envisioning a cheap, simple headphone stand with assembly required designed in a similar tradition. Mabie some custom enclosures? I don't really have the time to make/try something out, but would sure like to see the results of those that do.- lostspyder

MINT vs PINT
Ive been studying the MINT and PINT schematics. Why did they get rid of the "railsplitter" and the buffers? Is it so they can save board space by eliminating the need for two big power caps and replace them with a single one? Other than that it seems like it requires more board space than a...- lostspyder

DT 880's for 129$
I was watching a pair of DT 880s on ebay from seller 'bd-usa' and then all of the sudden they were relisted as 'buyitnow' at 129$. Seems like an awesome deal. They had one left after I checked out. The paypal payment is to "veronica@beyerdynamic-usa.com" so I assume they are direct from...- lostspyder

Supply - creating a ground between 2 wallwarts?
I'm planning on building a Pimeta, but as a poor college student, I want to keep the cost down. Can I create the the supply by doing this (see attached) with 2 wallwarts? Also, why don't they use a bridge rectifier instead of D1 in the 'stock' Pimeta power supply - it would fix any incorrect...- lostspyder

Fake ATH-CM7OO?
Ive been thinking of picking up a pair of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/Audio-Technica-I...QQcmdZViewItem , but have been debating if they are fake or real. The seller claims they are real and in the past the same item has been sold for 40$. Moreover, since audio-technia is an obscure brand...- lostspyder

Recomendations for 100-125$?
I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD-212pros, and I think there great (sound wise, little bassy but good), but they cramp up my ears (from pinning the back of my ears down, ive kinda god dumbo ears) after an hour or so of wearing them, so im thinking of picking up something else. Ive been...- lostspyder
