...affect the sound quality. I have bought multiple power conditioners and other power-related devices to learn this. But I have the Opto DX optically isolating my M-Scaler and Dave, and my M-Scaler is completely electrically isolated from Dave (in a different electric circuit), so I do not need...

If one of these boxes is a dedicated power supply, is it for the new M-Scaler, or for Dave, or for both? I have already invested in the Opto-DX and have my M-Scaler power source isolated in a different power circuit, so improving the M-Scaler power source does probably not make any sense in my...

For very little money you could try a USB to optical converter, which will feed digital without any electrical noise. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VSFBT82/

Just use a good ddc inbetween Mac and HMS. I use the Topping D10. Feed the HMS optical input from the ddc. You could also use a bixpower power bank to power the HMS. Job done.

After fiddeling around with HMS/TT2 connected directly via USB to my Mac / Studio Display, I want to optimize my digital source. I read a lot about streamers and the SRC-DX or OPTO. As I understood, an SRC-DX needs a good source as well to perform good. And that could potentially be a...

Dave is still very sensitive to RF coming from the mains. I found it out after simply putting two 10w 18ohm wirewound resistors in series with the live and neutral wires of its original SMPS and a small foil cap over to short high frequencies emitted from other PSU's like the scaler's one and my...

Rob did say the stock power supply has RF filters and it measures very well. People just dont listen, I use the stock power supply on both the M scaler and TT-2, I use the Bix power battery on the M Scaler occasionally when I use my CD player on Toslink to M scaler, other than that removing and...

I am close to moving from 3 batteries to no batteries at all. After purchasing an OPTO-DX pair with a long optical cable, I got separate batteries for HMS, OPTO-TX and OPTO-RX. It sounded phenomenal. Managing to keep 3 batteries charged is not convenient, but a price I was willing to pay for SQ...

So yep. OptoDX with the DAC side on a battery severs the loop. Like i did with my optic link too but replacing the battery by using DAC's own internal 5v unregulated for the optic receiver. But.. without a groundloop.. still Dave can pick up noise from the mains as my experiments showed me...

That's exactly what noise floor modulation does - it sharpens things up, giving an etched quality and making it sound brighter. But instrument separation and more importantly focus is degraded. That's not possible it's not how optical works. Any source PSU noise would induce a tiny amount of...

Yes, but then what would prevent the HMS radio station from transmitting straight into the DAVE? Ferrites? This s what OPTO-DX is for, but as I said earlier, it is not a panacea

Not if you’re using battery and optical in. You won’t even need expensive bnc cables!

But without OPTO-DX the HMS's noise will have an unimpeded path to the DAVE, no?

My understanding is that mains noise is in play if you use any power supply for the MScaler. Just use one of the Bixpower for the MScaler and ensure you use optical input. That is the only way to mitigate noise from the Macaler. You can then dispose of the extra Bixpower and Opto-DX.

I do see where you're coming from. You'd have gotten the same result by just using a Bixpower for the Scaler and an optical cable. I agree that isolating the dac is the aim. I've just gone a different route but saved money. I'm unconvinced you'll get a benefit from using Bixpower or psu for TT2...

I think youre not seeing the MTT2 setup i aim at. Ideal is TT2 powered by the bix and use the Opto-DX as input from the scaler to TT2. With only the TT2 side needing a battery. Using headphones straight out, the dac is completely isolated. I'm not talking about SRC-DX here.

This statement should be qualified. I found that, while significantly attenuated, noise does get across an optical link.

Yes, but that’s more unnecessary expenditure ($695) and even more if you want to feed it two batteries (transmitter & receiver side!) as recommended. Bixpower BP90 is $189.95. Add a Topping D10 as a DDC for the optical bridge, if there is no optical out on source. P.S I returned the SRC-DX so...

Thats why Opto-DX is useful.. optical in.. and getting 1M noise isolated taps to the DAC.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

That's right. Not a cost effective performance gain though. You'll get that using the Bixpower BP90. It'll cost you a lot less than I paid for it too! Rob Watts has stated that the only way to optimise noise both in and out of the Scaler is to use the battery pack and use optical in to feed the...

I think theres more to gain by using the Opto-DX instead of SRC-DX to electrically isolate your scaler's dual BNC link to your DAC. But keep the DAC side on a battery.

My Ghent Audio DC cables (DC-7N16C) just arrived. The 3.5mm x 1.3mm fits perfectly in the unregulated Port II of the Bixpower BP-90. Great service—ordered them late Sunday night and delivered four days later. Well made, well-shielded and they sound great.

I bet Ghent Audio could make you a cable like that if you explain carefully what you want to do. https://ghentaudio.com/. I just ordered a pair of DC power cables from Ghent to connect to the unregulated Port II of the Bixpower BP-90. One end will have a 3.5mm x 1.3mm for the tiny port on the...

I had a SRC-DX, but upgraded last year to a Sonore ultraDigital, which I really like. I hear less RFI when going coax into HMS vs USB. I also run OPTO-DX between HMS & DAVE, with each side powered by Bix batteries. It’s a lot of boxes, but sounds great.
