STAX SR-009S new flagship electrostatic earspeakers released (with impressions)
I almost did not get an SR-009 because of posts saying it is bright. After an audition with a KGSS-HV and an Audioquest Dragonfly ($99), I actually liked it and ordered one for myself :) However, I wish the SR-009 pads were thicker. I can only wear it for an hour before looking for a...- PATB

STAX SR-009S new flagship electrostatic earspeakers released (with impressions)
Stax with vinyl? I haven't been listening much to headphones the last two years because I got enamored with 2 channel-vinly listening. Don't know why I haven't even tried, considering my phono pre has XLR and my KGSS-HV needs some usage. Thanks for the post!- PATB

Oppo Sonica DAC (an affordable ES9038PRO Sabre DAC)
I just received my SDAC yesterday and have a quick question. When playing an album from a USB drive, is there a way to play the songs in the album in track order? Right now, the songs are sorted alphabetically, hence they are played in alphabetical order. I am thinking of getting a...- PATB

Post A Photograph Of Your Turntable
I am thinking of a ring clamp, but they cost more than my Rega P3! And the Rega motor may not be able to handle the extra weight. For now, I am just going to be more diligent with inspecting records, so I can return them if I have to.- PATB

Post A Photograph Of Your Turntable
Wow! I haven't been listening to headphones in a month since acquiring my Rega P3 and Epos K1 bookshelfs. Definitely low-fi compared to what you guys have, but I love my vinyl rig! Now, what do you guys do with warped records? I only have two, but is kind of irritating to see (did not...- PATB

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
About six months. I only had the SR-225 at the time -- so I had a bright and a dark headphone! To be honest, I am VERY SURPRISED the HD650 is veiled with the Jot. EDIT: I am assuming you are running the Jot balanced to the HD650.- PATB

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
@ColtMrFire that's exactly how the HD650 sounded to me 10+ years ago when I first heard it. I was coming from the Grado SR225, which was not exactly dark A silver cable helps (I use a Zu Mobius), but will not drastically change the treble. After you get used to it and compare it to a variety...- PATB

Reply to review by 'patb' on item 'ampsandsound Agartha Single-Ended Amplifier'
I have been quietly enjoying my Kenzie headphone amp for the last several months, and am really surprised that the amps&sound amps are not more popular here at head-fi. Wait, I guess I just answered my own question :)- PATB

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
You would think Audeze will give you a working headband for the asking price. I was cursing Audeze while I hacked my $200 "Carbon Fiber Headband."- PATB

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
I have the CF headband for my LCD-2.2F. It improves comfort because it allows for better weight distribution. However, the CF headband I got direct from Audeze in July still has the "defective" pad, which stretches really close to the CF band. It developed a hotspot within hours of use, so I...- PATB

The Stax Thread III
Yeah, I prefer the SR-009 in terms of pure sonic bliss, but I still use the HD650 far more, probably because it is too comfy; more comfortable than the HD800 actually. One tidbit of info. I tried the HD800 with the SonarWorks plug-in (flat response curve) and it is just fantastic -- the...- PATB

Stax SR-009 Channel Imbalance Trouble / Driver Problem?
I could not resist a brand new one for $2800 (including shipping) from PJ last year, so took the risk thinking that PJ charges $50 to serve as an agent for out of warranty repairs. PJ has been around for 10+ years, and knew it was a one man shop, but did not take into account that it could...- PATB

Thanks! The GT reference sub platter is on my Xmas wish list. Head-fi should really have a headphone and vinyl forum, especially now that Schiit supports vinyl/headphone listening with the Jot. What about it @jude?- PATB

I was going to post a picture of my very first table (black rega P3 2016 with ortofon cartridge) and noticed someone already did it for me . It took me a while to get a table because I was worried about surface noise etc. being distracting with headphones (unfortunately, I have no room for...- PATB

The Stax Thread III
I have the same problem as you, so am also looking for a Stax I can live with. I am so in love with the sound of SR-007 and SR-009, but the fit needs work. The SR-009 doesn't have the pad issue, but has an irritating clamping force. I am thinking the L700 may be the ticket, so am...- PATB

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
The DAVE is cheaper than the MSB select, Nagra HD, etc. and, from reviews, comes with an excellent headphone amp. Therefore, relatively speaking, it is actually a bargain in the audiophile land. Heck, it is probably priced low. The pricing could have been $20K and includes the stand whether...- PATB

The Stax Thread III
My ears would get hot rather easily, and the pads themselves feel abrasive after a while. So I sold them about 10+ years ago. The SR-009 is much better; I find the weight just right and the pads feel luxurious. However, the clamping force/vacuum feel starts to get irritating after about...- PATB

The Stax Thread III
Is the L700 more comfortable than the SR-009? I am thinking of getting a second stax and am torn between the L700 and SR-007 MK2. I had the SR-007 MK1 and although I liked the sound, I did not find it comfortable for long listening sessions (> 60 minutes). It is kind of hard to know how...- PATB
