A nice new DAC2 from Benchmark showing at RMAF
A big +1 on this. I had a DAC-1 PRE for years while other DAC's came and went and a DAC-1 in another system as well and the DAC-2 is better to my ears as well.- Bmac

A nice new DAC2 from Benchmark showing at RMAF
I believe that is only recommended when using an analog source since the DAC2 has a hybrid volume control (analog pot for analog sources and digital volume control for digital sources). The analog pot will be massively inferior to the digital volume control in tracking and noise, and channel...- Bmac

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface
I've replaced my U18 which I believe was defective. After much fiddling including wiping and re-building my laptop the U18 never worked properly. It did work sometimes, but at other times it stopped working completely no matter what I tried and I was at its mercy as to whether I would have any...- Bmac

Anedio D2 DAC release
No it doesn't. That was part of the reason I sold mine. I didn't like having to shut my sub off whenever I wanted to listen to my headphones.- Bmac

A nice new DAC2 from Benchmark showing at RMAF
No problem adjusting the jumpers here. Set to 0dB and working great with my HE-500's and K701's. I would not worry about the DAC2's reliability. I believe Benchmark products are as reliable as you're likely to find, and in the event that something should fail I don't think you'd ever have...- Bmac

K701 thread
Not sure what the conversion rate is but Woo WA7 should be close to budget and works well with K701 IME.- Bmac

WOO-HOOOO... WA7 "fireflies"!!!
Well, I've placed my order for the WA7. After hearing it with my K701's (among others like the Beyer T1 I mentioned previously) at SSI I've been thinking that the WA7 needs to be mine, and so it shall be. Stephen Mejias of Stereophile came away from the WA7/K701 combo at the New York Audio Show...- Bmac

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!
Nice setup, but I would suggest looking at other brands of power conditioners more in line with the quality of your other components. This is what the inside of an Isotek "power conditioner" looks like:- Bmac

WOO-HOOOO... WA7 "fireflies"!!!
Quote: I had a chance to listen to the WA7 and T1 together a few weeks ago at SSI and was blown away. I have not heard the HUDA so cannot comment on that, but I can tell you that you're in for a real treat. Of all the stuff I heard at SSI this year (speakers and headphones) that combo was...- Bmac

Anedio D2 DAC release
I ordered platinum wedding rings that were delivered by Fedex to a completely wrong address. Luckily the person who received them returned them to me. Not before opening and checking out a package that clearly didn't belong to her, but I was thankful to get them back. When I complained to Fedex...- Bmac

Benchmark DAC1 now available with USB
You could also just buy y splitters if you don't want to use RCA and XLR outputs. I have used these in the past, though I don;t recall them costing this much: http://www.takefiveaudio.com/mall/shopexd.asp?id=287- Bmac

Benchmark DAC1 now available with USB
Why do you even need two DAC's? Just use the RCA outputs for the speakers and the XLR outputs for the sub or vice versa. You can buy XLR->RCA adapters or cables if need be. If you really did need 2 DAC's though you could always just buy a USB->S/PDIF converter and use 2 digital outs from...- Bmac

I wiped my laptop and installed Windows 8 but the problem persists. So far the U18 has worked every time I have unplugged and re-plugged the USB cable though.- Bmac

FLAC Network streamer for my stereo rig setup
Just get get a Squeezebox Touch. It outputs bit-perfect digital which is as good as it gets. The plugin you're referring to is EDO or enhanced digital output. It allows the Touch to output 24/196 via digital coax instead of the normal 24/96 limit. Not a big concern for most, and with it you lose...- Bmac

Anedio D2 DAC release
I sold my Benchmark DAC-1 PRE on Thursday and ordered the D2 on Friday. It shipped out within a few hours and I'm really looking forward to it getting here. A nice Christmas gift to myself. I was really considering the Benchmark DAC2, but part of the appeal of the D2 was it's price. I sold...- Bmac

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface
Quote: The laptop is a 2-year old core i7 Lenovo running Windows 7 Pro. It's definitely powerful enough to run an audio driver. I've been thinking of putting an SSD with Win8 in it partly because of this issue but I'm hesitant because the computer has never had any problems otherwise...- Bmac

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface
I followed your advice Mr. Casey, but to no avail. The U18 was still not recognized at startup. I then tried updating the BIOS and all drivers hoping this might help but that did nothing. I tried re-installing again on a different port and still no luck. At startup when I look at devices and...- Bmac

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface
Quote: Thanks Mr. Casey. It's definitely a USB 2.0 port and I don't think anything else has ever been installed there (it's on the back and I always use the ports on the side), but it still isn't recognized at startup. Thanks for the heads up on the control panel settings! I'm glad...- Bmac

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface
I got mine a few days ago. I have a problem where when I turn the laptop on it doesn't recognize the U18 until I unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, when playing files with different bit-depths or bit rates is it necessary to manually go into...- Bmac

Anedio D2 DAC release
You'd probably get better results using the balanced and single ended outputs. Depending on which outputs you're using now just use the others for the sub. You can get XLR to single-ended cables if need be.- Bmac

Anedio D2 DAC release
I messaged Anedio again and this time got a response right away. It seems they had responded to me earlier and it was me who didn't get the message. Not sure how as I checked my junk, but the result is that I'm likely going to be getting a D2.- Bmac

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!
The fit is tight enough that the top of the heatsink presses into the padding on the inside of the case wall but it doesn't dent the side out. My temps are usually low-30's at most under normal conditions. I've used lots of different fan controllers and found them all disappointing, so...- Bmac
