Crack;Bottlehead OTL
I am currently listening to the modified crack using a GE 6080 with a chrome metal base (the only one I have ever seen). I am using an 8SN7GTB Sylvania (less current than 6sn7) with an eight to nine pin adapter. It calms the 6080 and produces wide sound stage. I am using Sennheiser HD800S for...- Jim Spec

Crack;Bottlehead OTL
I have two Cracks. One highly modified including Speedball and one with NO modifications - NO Speedball. I have used a 6F8G and a 6C8G as a power tube on the Crack with no modifications (IT WILL NOT WORK ON A CRACK WITH SPEEDBALL). I believe it provides a much smoother tube-like sound even...- Jim Spec

Thanks again. I had no idea anything like that was happening in TN. I will make every effort to go. I have good and bad days. Just getting over chemo. Last year was given 30 days to live. I have been clear for a year not. I appreciate you letting me know. Best, John- Jim Spec

Help with Bottlehead Crack component
Thanks to both of you for you sharing your expertise. One more question. I will probable give replacing the cap a go. Does polarity make a difference with installation and if so is there an easy way to identify the positive side. Also, in order to make a more secure connection, would it make...- Jim Spec

Help with Bottlehead Crack component
I bought this amp from a member, however, I have not received a reply from him regarding this component. This piece fell off the amp and I am having trouble knowing what it is and how to replace it. I am attaching photo of the component as it was attached to the amp and also a couple of photos...- Jim Spec

Darkvoice 336i & 336SE Tuberolling PartII
While I do not recommend it to anyone else, I have used the 6F8G as a power tube in the place of a 6AS7 in my Crack without Speedball. For some reason in the other Crack I have with Speedball, it does not perform very well. As a power tube it really runs much cooler than for instance the 6080...- Jim Spec

Darkvoice 336i & 336SE Tuberolling PartII
I have been an advocate of the 6F8G tube for use in the Darkvoice earlier on this Forum. I have since switched to a Bottleneck Crack. After trying many tube configurations I still find that the 6F8G/6C8G provides the best sound as a front-end tube. I especially favor the Tung-Sol 6F8G. These...- Jim Spec

Darkvoice 336 + 336i Tuberolling [ tubes ]
I still have many - about 50 - tubes. Many will work in the Crack. Most will work with an adapter. There are some that I would sell if you have interest. Best, JS- Jim Spec

How to equalize your headphones: A Tutorial
It was great to have found this post. I have been trying to find information on hardware based parametric or graphic eq for use with headphones. tube rolling help (6H8C tube)
He is looking for information on a tube, the 6H8C - not on his amplifier. Information about that tube, substitutes, etc. can be found on the Bottlehead Website. Unless I am missing something somewhere, I am confused about the value of the comment. Good listening, JS- Jim Spec

Darkvoice 336i & 336SE Tuberolling PartII
I am afraid that the Darkvoice is in the closet. I am using a Bottlehead Crack. As much as I liked the Darkvoice I do prefer the Crack. I just have not been able to bring myself to sell the DV. Maybe soon. I did order the Tung Sol. It should sound great in the Crack. Best Listening, JS- Jim Spec

I do not believe that it could be anything but: back socket - Input from source front socket - Output to headphones I still have a DV and found it to be a wonderful. It was the first really good headphone amp that I owned. I did really love the shaded RCA 6f8G (with adapter) It had such a...- Jim Spec

OPPO PM-1 / PM-2 Loaner Program
Please do not think that I was in any way being critical of the Audeze LCD-2 headphones. I am a great fan of the LCD-2s and love the planar sound. They remind me of the many pairs of Maganapans that I have owned. I am in my 70s so have had plenty of time to go through some speakers. My...- Jim Spec

OPPO PM-1 / PM-2 Loaner Program
I really appreciate everyone that liked the PM-1s. I thought the sound was outstanding but the comfort factor would keep me from purchasing. The ear cup just did not fit my ears. I can wear the HD-800s for hours and feel no discomfort at all. A bit larger ear cup would make the PM-1s...- Jim Spec
