The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
OK, all. If I'm ready to go big and drop $1200-1500 on a closed back, what should I be targeting? I will plan on EQing, but general tonal characteristics I enjoy are: - strong bass - inky black silence with a strong "presence" to the performers - i'd be fine with less "analytical" sound if it...- Telix

E-MU Wooden Series Headphones
Potentially stupid question: I already have a paid of slightly modded (dampened) Denon AH-D2000's in my collection. Is the Teak substantially different/better than those? I love the general sonic signature of the 2000's for sure.- Telix

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
I switched from my Denon AH-D2000's back to my SRH-1540's today, and here's my primary complaint: the Shure's are boring. They don't have the bass punch of the Denon's and have a very different character. I feel like they are more "sterile" in a way. I'm sure that is an appealing characteristic...- Telix

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
Thanks for this great reply! I'm pretty unsure what I could really improve because it's been so long since I've auditioned any better equipment. I think the thing that I like most about some high quality recordings + equipment is the feeling of intimacy that can be gained, but I also love tight...- Telix

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
Glad to find this thread! I listen to closed-back headphones at work and for podcast production during recording because I can't have sound leakage. I currently have an old Denon AH-D2000 that I've modded with Dynamat a long while back, and a Shure SRH1540. I'm kind of out of the loop as to what...- Telix

Shure SRH1540 Review
I was sold on the Fostex TH-600's to replace my Denon AH-D2000's I've had for quite some time, but after doing some more research (always a terrible idea, I know) I came across the Shure SRH1540, and now am undecided. I need to get a pair of sealed headphones, as I listen at work all day and do...- Telix

Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones
As an owner of a nice old pair of slightly modded Denon AH-D2000, are these essentially those headphones, but better? Should I just jump to the TH900 for significantly better sound?- Telix

Upgrades from Denon AH-D2000 + Schiit setup?
I've been listening to high-end headphones for quite some time. I got my first pair of Sennheiser HD580's in '99 or so and replaced them with Denon AH-D2000's about 6 years ago. I have done some of the resonance modifications such as dynamat in the cups, on part of the driver, and added extra...- Telix

Xonar Essence ST Sneak Peek
Dumb question, you guys... I have been updating the STX tweak/impressions thread, is there significantly different information in this ST "sneak peak" thread that both need to exist? I've changed the title of the STX thread to "STX & ST" to try to include both, but is that not going to work?- Telix

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread
I'm going to take the 4 sets of op-amps I have and give them to my fiancee to put little stickers on them with numbers. Then I'm going to blind test, even though it's difficult to do it very well with the few minutes in between for switching. This is really the only way I'll be able to not be...- Telix

e-mu 1616m headphone amp quality?
After dealing with the pretty bad tech support over at Creative Labs (owners of the e-mu line), I sent my 1212m in for replacement as I could never get it working without clicking in my system. Amazingly, they sent me BACK a 1616m - quite a HUGE difference! So now I'm debating whether or not to...- Telix
