Helot 2x OTL - By Spartan Music
I'm just trying the psvane classic red print 12bh7 and am so far very impressed. I have a Sylvania 12au7 black plate square getter up front at the moment. This is my first tube amp and I'm enjoying tinkering with different tube brands and am very surprised just how different they can make this...- Slipmyster

Philips Fidelio X2?!
Reading this thread was what convinced me to buy them as there doesn't seem to be many people that have had any majer issues with them plus the fact I'm not good with change so when I find something I like I tend to stick with it. On that note I don't see any reason why what I have now won't...- Slipmyster

Philips Fidelio X2?!
I'm a little late to the party with these but as they say better late than never. It actually took me a couple of months to decide on weather to buy them or not as I've been happy with my shp9500 and grado sr60e but I think I got a good deal from Amazon at £111 for the x2hr. They've surprised me...- Slipmyster

Douk U3 Mini headphone amp - Question on power supply voltage / amp rating
It's like anything in audio some do and some don't. The original chip is already quite good but you can do better. I tried the BB op amp's and preferred the original but I came across the MUSES 8920 j fet and that is a noticeable improvement and didn't break the bank.- Slipmyster

I ordered mine from eBay but was lucky I found a couple in the UK. I'm pretty sure Amazon have them as well.- Slipmyster

All the way with a socket saver I'd recommend replacing the power cable as well if possible. I use Russ Andrews power cords in my headphone system. I know some people say they make no difference but I think if you can use a better quality cable it can't hurt.- Slipmyster

It was a inexpensive bakelite gold pin one. It went in easy but I'm not sure how easy it will be to take out if I ever need to remove it but it definitely helps to cool it down lifting the back tube out of the case.- Slipmyster

Just thought I would share som pic's of my Helot with tube raiser's under the 12bh7. Hoping it will help with cooling a little and I think it also looks the part. Also tube's I have so far. The JJ tube's came in my amp. I'm currently using the EH 12bh7 with a Sylvania 12au7 black plate square...- Slipmyster

I've been reading that the one's made in England are very good but I can't find much on the foreign versions and there seems to be a big difference in price between the two versions. The 12au7 is reasonable but the 12bh7 made in England gets quite expensive. Martin- Slipmyster

Hi everyone I just thought I would share my thoughts on the sr60e I bought not to long ago. As I said I only bought them because they were brand new and half price and I was curious. I'm so glad I bought them because these things absolutely fly. I was listening to them today and it brought back...- Slipmyster

Have you used any of the Brimar tubes they seem to have a good reputation and the 12 au7 look's to be a reasonable price.- Slipmyster

Thank you for your advice I think I will give them a try. I don't think they are that uncomfortable they are definitely the most comfortable on ear I have had and strangely it's only one ear that gets a bit painful after a while. Like you say I won't really know untill I try them Thank you very...- Slipmyster

I recently picked up a pair of sr60e new in the box for a bargain price. I am so far very happy with them and they sound very good running from my otl tube amp. I was just wondering if it is worth trying the g pads on them or is it likely to damage the sound. It just wouldn't hurt if they were...- Slipmyster

It seems to be a very transparent tube. I get more of the difference between the 12au7 I've tried with the JJ than I do with the Electro Hormonix or the Sylvania. It also seems to to have a little more gain than the other 2. It's a decent tube from what I can tell.- Slipmyster

Hi everyone. I decided to swap out the tube's today and noticed the JJ Tesla 12bh7 has a lot more output than the Electro Hormonix and the Sylvania and it's made a big difference to the sound of my Philips shp9500 and Grado sr60e. I still ended up with the Sylvania 12au7 up front but I was...- Slipmyster

Mine came with the JJs tubes. I also have the EH and to me the JJ is a better sounding tube. I'm not keen on the EH. The 12bh7 seems ok but the 12au7 seems to have a bit of a strange tone. I'm using Sylvania nos in it now with good results. Martin- Slipmyster

Replacement tube's question
I've had mine over a year now and it's a lovely sounding bit of kit. I've found myself preferring to listen to my headphones over my main system sometimes.- Slipmyster

Replacement tube's question
It sounds like it would be a bit of a risk trying to use the 6sn7 in it. It's a pity as it would have made a nice option. I'm sure people would be interested in a dedicated thread as it's a interesting little amp and there's a fair few members on here from the UK and Europe.- Slipmyster
