Looks like Sufjan Stevens is doing a free performance at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington DC on Feb 5th. Tickets will be distributed on Jan 27th. I get the impression you have to go stand in line, no phone orders. Not sure about that though. I know it's early, but mark your...- jefemeister

Anyone else get Pinky & The Brain or Animaniacs DVDs?
Am I the only one that rushed out to buy the brand-new Pinky and The Brain DVD set yesterday? Man, I loved that show and I'm getting re-hooked all over again. Highly recommended at Best Buy's intro price of $30. Animaniacs is out too which was a darn good show, but I've been waiting for P&tB for...- jefemeister

There are a bunch of free advanced screenings of a new comedy around the US. Steve Carell is in it and it's supposedly very funny. Been a big hit at the film festivals. It was made for $8 million as an independent and then picked up by Fox Searchlight. Here's the link. They have cities besides...- jefemeister

DVD Upscaling Artifact
...I was finally able to track this down to the upscaling in my Denon DVD-1920. I had it set to output 1080i over HDMI as this is the native resolution* of my TV. By setting the DVD player to progressive output the artifact completely disappeared. I'm now using 480p. I could do 720p but this way...- jefemeister

The Omen [2006]
Just saw this yesterday without ever seeing the original 4 movies. All in all I thought it was pretty good and it was cool for the novelty of seeing a major opening on a Tuesday--our theater was packed like none other but that probably had more to do with school being out for the summer around...- jefemeister

DVR Picture Quality Help!!
So I got an HDTV and a Motorola cable box with DVR capability. HD signals from the box look awesome, Digital SD channels look fairly decent, and regular SD channels look like absolute crap. I did not guess that SD channels would look as poor as they do but I am most upset about the regular SD...- jefemeister

51" Hitachi CRT RPTV 1080i: $810
So I just got my new (first!) HDTV delivered yesterday from Circuit City. This thing is incredible. I still have to putz around with the picture a little bit but I'm very impressed so far--it has this thing called "magic focus" which I think sets the convergence quite nicely. There's a 117 point...- jefemeister

Thom Yorke "solo" album
Can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame is releasing a "solo" album called "The Eraser" on July 11. I put solo in quotes because Thom has explicitly stated he doesn't like the term. There is no possibility of a breakup or anything like that. Looks like their 7th...- jefemeister

Super-thin, flexible, quick-charging battery

iAudio G3 + AKG K26P = Too much bass?
I know the K26P can be a little too bassy but lots of folks have said that it can be a good cure for an anemic portable player. Does the iAudio G3 fit this description? He's listening to Pink Floyd, Rush, Queensryche, CCR, etc mostly but also likes more mellow stuff too like Simon & Garfunkel...- jefemeister

Squeezebox III Released
A new Squeezebox is out now. It doesn't seem to be called "III" though actually. It appears to be merely a Squeezebox II in a fancy new chassis though: "The third-generation Squeezebox has a completely redesigned form factor and is functionally identical to Squeezebox2."- jefemeister

SuperBit DVDs @ Best Buy $9.99
Just a heads up. The Best Buy near me has a nice collection of SuperBit DVDs on sale for $9.99.
