How do these sound un-amped vs amped? The reason I ask is because I found a pair locally and tried them out with my iphone 7 and the volume was pretty damn low, that being said- There was nothing special about the sound IMO. I'm wondering how different these are with an amp...and if I should...

Thanks for the reccomendations. Those edifers look nice protege. 150 for both? not a bad price at all. What are your thoughts bass impact of having a separate sub vs not having one. Can those provide a good amount of bass?

So I carefully selected a seller on ebay. He had the dt770's listed as "open box amazon return, never been used". So I went with it at $120. Got them today, left driver is hissing constantly...and they just don't sound good to me. They might be defective all around...but the mids sound not...
