How do these sound un-amped vs amped?

The reason I ask is because I found a pair locally and tried them out with my iphone 7 and the volume was pretty damn low, that being said- There was nothing special about the sound IMO. I'm wondering how different these are with an amp...and if I should purchase them and try them out. These are a year an a half old pair so im guessing not the newest version.

If you have only heard them through your phone, then you haven't really heard them. Can you try them on the seller's amp? That might work for you. At the very least, if you do buy them, you will need an amplifier in order to properly drive them.

He didn't seem too welcoming in that regard...however no problem. Some people are the more nervous type. I figured If I get them worst case scenario I can sell them and I need an amp anyway so....

Had the Alpha Dogs and you definitely need a amp.
