Ear impression in Montréal, QC
So it looks like the only option have the cable replaced on my q-jays is to have them re-shelled. So be it but now I need my ear impressions. Could anyone recommend an audiologist in the Montréal area? How about diy kits? How much should I expect to pay for ear impressions?- YGingras

Recabling q-jays
My trusty q-jays, after a few years of very good service, have started glitching when I move the left cable. I can see a small crack in the insulation so it's a no brainer to tell what the problem is: http://ygingras.net/gal/l/misc/q-jays-cable-2.jpg They are out of warranty and...- YGingras

New eartips for Q-Jays
Looks interesting. How long can you go before you have to change your olive tips? Give the work that goes into this mod, I hope you can do more that one month.- YGingras

New eartips for Q-Jays
Hi, I have a pair of Q-Jays and I love them. But my love for them is not without it's share of problems since I wear them so often that after only one month and a half, I killed my memory foam tips. I'm now looking for a replacement. I prefer memory foam since I get the best balance of...- YGingras

Good closed headphones for around $300?

Styleish Headphones
You can probably find Ath-ESW9 in the For-Sale thread for around $150. Given their good look and impressive sound quality, they would be a safe bet if you want to make a style statement while enjoying good music. For full sized cans, I like the look of most of the AKG line-up.- YGingras

Full size headphones & sleeping
Q-Jays are so small that you can rest your ear on a pillow without feeling them being forcefully pushed inside your grey matter. I only use them for naps but it's definitely a viable option. I tried sleeping with full sized cans but I always wake up then I try to turn on the side as some point.- YGingras

Good closed headphones for around $300?
If you want closed cans because you are looking for isolation, DT-770 is a good choice. The Pro 80 version has more isolation but it probably leans too much on the bass side for your request for a well balanced can. The 2005 version of the DT-770 is very well balanced and it has pretty good...- YGingras

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 vs. Dt 770s?
I owned DT-770 pro 80, I currently own DT-770 2005 250 ohm and a coworker of mine has the M50. The M50 is portable while DT-770 is not. M50 will drive fine from a laptop or a portable player; for any version of the DT-770, you will need and amp. The bright side of that is that both Fiio E3...- YGingras

Looking for something like the Beyerdynamic dt 770
If you want closed back because you want isolation, the DT 770 are hard to beat. The Pro edition has more isolation and more bass but their sound is less detailed so it may or may not be a good pick depending on what you are looking for. Have considered IEMs?- YGingras

From DT-770 pro 80 ohm to balanced DT-700 2005 250 ohm
It went like that: I sold my DT-770 pro in order to get a pair of Ath-ESW9 but I didn't like how they clamped my glasses between my ears and my head so I traded the ESW9 for a pair of balanced DT-770 2005. I guess was a bit under of a rush to get back to 770 because I didn't even noticed I...- YGingras

Beyerdynamic DT880 *closed-back*
I was under the impression that DT-880 2005 had more or less the same driver as DT-770 but that the improved response curved of the 880 was entirely due to the open design. How would you compare your closed back DT-880 to DT-770?- YGingras
