Brand-Name vs. Hand-Made
Talk to MisterX or one of the other Mini^3 builders recommended by AMB and be done with it. Not a big fan of the CMOY. Great amp for a budding DIYer, not something I'd be interested in buying from someone else as a serious amplifier. My two cents.- UglyJoe

DIY tube amp with passive throughput option?
??? Just use the comp output when you need it. Bypassing the "amplification" portion of the amp won't matter much as far as tube life. Quiescent dissipation is typically much higher than signal dissipation... just because the amp isn't being fed a signal doesn't mean that it's not working... hard!- UglyJoe

How Balanced Is Balanced?
Yes and no. The biggest benefit to going balanced is in the performance of the amplifier itself, as far as headphones go. Balanced transmission was really developed for driving long cables such that any common mode noise picked up in the cable would be cancelled at the destination. Since...- UglyJoe

Today's music versus the real deals from 60/70"s
Personally love Coheed and Cambria.... very retro-sound, but great musicians, long progressive songs (a favorite of mine), great music. Takes a few minutes to get used to Claudio's voice for some though... -

I'm looking for classical guitar albums
If you want punchy start with Williams' The Black Decameron, Williams and Cain's The Mantis and the Moon, and the Assad's Jardim Abandonado. Very good recordings all; the first has a fine recording of Brower's Concerto de Toronto as well as staple solo pieces such as El Decameron Negro. The... -
Need help on buying acoustic guitar
Spend no more than $200, and a lot less if you can get away with it. A Fender Squire or something like that would fit the bill nicely. Don't buy a guitar with a pickup in it; no use until you know that you are going to stick with it. Anything that frets nice will be a good guitar for a beginner...- UglyJoe
