Okay, that's a possibility. Although I am using the preferred USB port on my Mac (potentially better sounding). Which to me, outweighs any worry about being bitperfect at 24/352 or 24/384. But I appreciate the suggestion.- TheHawk

Quote: I deleted the 352 and 384 test files, because I don't have any music at that resolution, nor do I ever anticipate owning music at that resolution. Being bitperfect at that resolution would never concern me. Hence, those test files aren't relevant to me. I don't have the...- TheHawk

New Naim headphone amp/DAC
Quote: Paul, life is complicated some times. I was puzzled why the DAC-V1 wasn't sounding as good as it should, especially by now. I tried my Rega Dac today. It's not sounding as it should either. Perhaps something is wrong with my system, or perhaps it relates to a problem I was having...- TheHawk

New Naim headphone amp/DAC
For anyone using Audirvana and OSX with their DAC-V1, I just solved my problem. I just talked to Damien at Audirvana regarding 16 bit test samples not being recognized by the DAC-V1. He advised me that, under Audio Volume in preferences, if I set Audio Volume to "Dac Only", then the test samples...- TheHawk

Thanks so much Paul for the link. So the DAC must support Integer Mode. Audirvana bypasses CoreAudio and "reenables the buried Integer Mode", according to the FAQs. BitPerfect uses CoreAudio.- TheHawk

Quote: No. I just wanted to run the Firmware Update process and see that it works okay, which would further confirm that everything is bitperfect — the manual says that "DAC-V1 and audio playback application should be confirmed BitPerfect at 24bit/44.1kHz" to do the firmware update. I...- TheHawk

New Naim headphone amp/DAC
Does anyone know if the DAC-V1 really supports integer mode? Integer seems to be lit green on my "desktop transport" when using Audirvana, but when using the BitPerfect player it says "NO" to integer mode in the preferences and the Integer Mode checkbox is greyed out. All the Naim test...- TheHawk

Paul, I went through the Setup Mode Menu and Settings Menu instructions in the manual, and don't see anything about volume levelling or headphone cross-feed, so I assume you are referring to preferences in your player, Jriver. I have Audirvana setup exactly as specified by Naim, so it's weird...- TheHawk

Thanks Paul. I wonder why they include the 16 bit files? Also, setting the computer to 44.1/24 seems inconsequential, because Audirvana is just going to change it on the fly anyway, to what's needed.- TheHawk

Paul and Julian...thanks for your comments, by the way. Once in a while I turn up the volume to see how the DAC is sounding. Only time will tell. By the way, do you guys have any idea why the 16 bit test samples ended up with the message "no test audio found" while I did the BitPerfect analysis?- TheHawk

There is a gentleman on another forum who says the DAC-V1 was sounding dramatically better after four to five days. I'm hoping things improve. For sure there are some magic moments here and there, where I'm hearing things in a particular song that I never noticed before. And that's pretty...- TheHawk

I've had the DAC-V1 running continuously for about 24 hours. I'm quite quite disappointed so far. I'm using a brand new MacBook, Audirvana Plus, A Nait XS, and Naim speakers. I'll give it more time to break in.- TheHawk
