Thanks but I was referring to the headphone amp details and I'm aware of the ability to do my own cables but was considering other headphones as a "fix" if it means an improvement over these ones anyway.

Yeah, I know about all of that but I was hoping someone had some insight on the actual details on the headphone amp in this case :/. I have no issue using my receiver with the 80 Ohm headphones but I have nothing of higher impedance to plug in.

My main concern with regular headphone amps is mostly the tiny volume pot. I also don't really want things sliding around on my desk because they're so light that the cables that plug into them can shove the amp. The receiver of course adds the bonus of existing if I ever decide to setup...

I ordered my DT770 80 Pros in October 2013 and they've been one of my favorite purchases ever. I love the comfort and sound of these but I'm tired of a few things: 1. The cord is TOO LONG. I don't need a 9 foot cable. Half of that would be fine (minor issue). 2. The cord started moving freely...

The earliest indication I can find of their existence is 2006 (review). I'm watching a movie right now based in the 90s and they're using DT770s and it's bothering me because I'm pretty sure they didn't exist. Any info on this?

Your opinion of where the best players will be is irrelevant to the matter.   I've seen plenty of amazing players in competitions without prizes and that's in ET, arguable the highest skill requirement shooter that exists.

  It is useful here as the original point which was a comparison between this and the PC360 which is practically the same headset without the emulated surround. The original point was that stereo is better for a competitive edge. What I was thinking the first time this topic got active...

I've gone over this stuff already and people got all mad and posts were deleted.

 However the conversation wasn't on "triple A titles" but rather competitive shooters which are in stereo in the ones where hearing people really makes a difference.   I'm pretty sure idTech3 didn't have anything fancy with audio in the game itself and stereo always beat emulated surround.

Nobody is pretending to be asleep and I do more than well "on the battlefield".
