Looking for good commuter IEMs for ~$250? Mainly considering the ER4-PT and IE80

That does look like a good option, but the lack of a removable cable plus the lack of any warranty that I can see makes me really hesitant to buy them. I've never had a pair of IEMs that lasted more than 2 or 3 years, and having the ability to remove the cable would be a really big deal to me if...

Looking for good commuter IEMs for ~$250? Mainly considering the ER4-PT and IE80

So my Sennheiser IE60s kicked the bucket (which they've done before, but this time they're out of warranty) so I'm looking for a new pair of headphones. I really liked the sound signature of the IE60s but one thing I really hated about them was the poor fit in my ears, and the even poorer...

Heavily modified Grado SR80i (functionally and aesthetically). Would anyone be interested in something like this for sale?

The background behind this is that my girlfriend and I both have Grado SR80i's that ended up with damaged wires that would intermittently short out.   I decided to buy 3.5mm stereo jacks from Digikey and make the cable on the headphones detachable so that this problem wouldn't arise in the...

    Broke my ATH-ES7s

Yes, the three segments of the 3.5mm jack (the gold parts separated by a black strip) are, from the tip down, left, right, and ground. Assuming the damage is at the point where the wires are soldered to the 3.5mm jack, this could work, but if the damage is where the wires are soldered to the...

    Broke my ATH-ES7s

Can you get at the wire where it goes into the driver? If you can, try probing between there and one of the three segments of the 3.5mm jack with an ohmmeter. Try all three segments, one of them should have very low resistance close to zero (indicating continuity), and if it doesn't, it's an...

    What Makes Headphones Desirable?

There's something about headphones that speakers just don't do for me. I think it's the whole projection of sound so close to your ear that makes it more desirable to me. Sure, nice speakers ARE nice, but how much more "surround sound" can you get than a driver mere millimeters away from your ear?

Should I go for the HD595s at this price?

Okay, so I can get the HD595s for $160 new. This seems like a pretty good deal to me, but I don't know if they're suitable for my type of music (mainly melodic death metal). I've heard that they're more forward than other Sennheiser cans, which is good for my type of music, but everyone tells me...

Okay, last time before I go and buy something! Looking for something that works unamped and amped

I tried out a few Grados while I was at J&R. I find them to just be uncomfortable. I hate supra-aural headphones. And I actually preferred the sound of the Sennheiser HD555 and the Shure SRH840 over the Grado 80 and 225 models (they have a weird naming scheme... all I remember is that those were...

Okay, last time before I go and buy something! Looking for something that works unamped and amped

Okay you guys, I've made some threads before but I think I'm just about ready to go out and pick something. And if I don't like it, J&R has a 30-day return policy. :P I sampled some headphones at J&R using my Acer Aspire One (with the omnipresent integrated Realtek sound), so I guess this can...

    My ATH-A700 impressions (poor man setups)(metal lover)(basshead)

Hmm, I may have to look into the A700s now. I posted a thread yesterday about how I'm looking for good headphones in the $100-$200 price range to listen to metal with. I listen to bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Children of Bodom, Trivium, As I Lay Dying, etc. Though I'm not a fan of...

The most beautiful headphones you know of?

I absolutely love the look of the K701.

Torn between a few headphones; can anyone point me in the right direction?

So, I went to J&R this morning with my Motorola Droid loaded up with some songs to try and find some new headphones. Admittedly not the best-sounding thing, but I don't have a laptop I can carry around anyway, and I figure if I like the way something sounds on a just-decent sounding device, it...
