Technical problems with Little Dot Mk9 - intermittent noises
Hi forum! I'm having some technical issues with my Little Dot Mk9 - bought in 2013 - and I hope this is the right forum. For some time, I have been hearing intermittent noises that happen independent of the volume settings - and on both channels. Sometimes it can get quite loud (loud enough to...- sebhoff

Technical problems with Little Dot Mk 9: intermittent noise
Hi forum, I've been having some technical issues with my Little Dot Mk9. There is an intermittent (but increasingly constant) noise that is independent of the volume setting of the device. Sometimes it gets really quite loud, and sometimes it is barely audible. Sometimes it disappears completely...- sebhoff

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 - overmodulation problem?
I've just received my new TubeMagic D2, and I'm experiencing odd distortions - the D2 seems to overmodulate (correct word? - sorry, am not a native speaker of English...) in some places. It doesn't happen throughout - but again and again when the sound level is high enough. This happens...- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
I'm still looking for a solution to the transformer hum. A friend of mine has offered to make an aluminium replacement cover - this might help... I'm generally happy with the amp - no hissing, crackling and the like, and the sound quality is fine. But the hum must go... Sebastian- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
OK - after some more time with the LD 9, here's a quick update... I'm generally happy with the amp, but there are/were two main problems: 1. transformer hum 2. a hum inside the headphones that turned up when the volume dial is past 70 I have been able to solve the second problem: this...- sebhoff

Musical Fidelity V90-DAC - New 32-bit DAC with USB, optical and coax
I know it's an old thread, but I thought it's the best to add my impressions. I bought the V90-DAC about 10 days ago and I have two observations: Sound-quality-wise, I can confirm the impressions of some reviews - it's not particularly exciting but certainly decent. I had the opportunity to...- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
Sorry - I think I'm not experienced enough to do this. Some time over the next few weeks, I'm planning to compare it to my only other relevant piece of equipment, a cheapo SMSL SAD-25 DAC. Once I've done this, I'll report back - but don't expect too much. In the meantime, I'm just enjoying what...- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
OK - quick update after one more week with the amp: I've now managed to change the gain settings in my Little Dot. There was some confusion because I was instructed by David from Little Dot that I would have to look for two red boxes with switches. But I simply couldn't find the second one. In...- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
Thanks, LogicAudio for your input! I've now spoken to our audio specialist at work. He confirms that the hum is from the transformer and that it *is* fairly loud. He also questions the claim by David from Little Dot that this is a "toroidal transformer". But he says that it's probably...- sebhoff

Thanks, rattesp - that's an interesting comment! I'll show the amp to the specialists at work today and will see what they say.- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
I've now heard from David at Little Dot who writes that "it's normal as all toroidal transformers have some level of mechanical hum from operation". Mhm - I'm still a little surprised. I guess I'll need longer headphone cables so that I can put the amp further away from me...- sebhoff

Well - I'm pretty sure the hum comes out of the black box behind the tubes. Or does that depend on the tubes, too? I don't have any other tubes yet - this is my first tube amp. Sebastian- sebhoff

Little Dot MK 9 - Has anyone tried it?
Yes - I understand. As I indicated, I'm not really experienced in all of this. At the moment, I only see the need for a phono pre-amp in my set-up - which I already have. Or am I missing anything obvious? I'm getting more and more concerned about the hum that the LD emits. If I hear it during...- sebhoff

Mhm - no, I can't see anything on the bottom of the amp that would look like a switch. But it came with a few small plastic thingies that look like hard-disk jumpers to me. I suppose they might be used for changing the gain settings? Any hints from other LD MK 9 owners? The amp was...- sebhoff
