    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

The Beyerdynamic cable is 4 pin XLR.   The 3.5mm plugs on the can side fit well, however, they are smaller and not as tight as the original Elear ones. So it's not the extra lock which holds the cable, but the 3.5mm jack itself.   Thomann is the largest online retailer of music gear in...

    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

I have the Beyerdynamics balanced cable (designed for T1 2nd) and can confirm that it works fine with Elear.

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.

Version 8 Beta is out now and available on www.lynxstudio.com - check their support forum.   For me, it's really a major improvement, makes working with the touch screen easier and more straight forward. 7 was good, but this is great. Highly recommended to try.   The Hilo Remote on Mac is...

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.

I think so. Currently, we are on 7, the new one is 8. So even if you had to do 7 first, it's a 5 min thing.

    The Stax Thread III

I bought a 353X from Japan recently. The power supply section is similar to the 323 - no switch, meaning fixed to 100V input, and cutted wires on the transformer, so hardly possible to change voltage by soldering.   Peter

    Tidal vs ?

ClassicOnline HD*LL can stream High Res (up to 192/24) on a Mac (and for sure other plattforms as well). Catalogue is rather small with mainly Naxos content. Qobuz can stream High Res (up to 192/24) on an iPhone (you need a capable DAC for that), but only music you have purchased in High Res...

is Sennheiser HD 800 still the best headphone for music out there ? also how much better is it compared to hd700?

HD700 is definitely playing in a different (lower) league. That does not mean you might not be satisfied. The only way to find out is to try.   It could be that HD800 hooked up to your mainboard would ok for you. But - I don't think there is any mainboard regardless of price which has an...

is Sennheiser HD 800 still the best headphone for music out there ? also how much better is it compared to hd700?

Some would argue the HD800S is even better - but I don't think there is an agreement in the community, yet. For me, with that  budget, I would go for the HD800 without hesitation. If I had to keep just one headphone, I would easily select the HD800. Now, if you look for heavy bass, probably...

    The Entry Level Stax Thread

Yes, no problem - but be aware of polarity, as said a few posts above. Otherwise, you could damage the 2170.   I don't think there is an audible sound difference unless the power supply is broken (and creating a hum or other noise). The supplied 100V supply from STAX is not special at all...

    The Entry Level Stax Thread

Yes, that looks good. I know you know, but really make sure the polarity is as printed on the back of the 2170: plus on the outside, minus in the center of the plug. Otherwise, you will need a fuse and a soldering iron...   Peter

Is there a STAX amp with SMPS (auto ranging 100-240V)?

You could use a 252 amp which uses an external power supply - and get a switchable PS for that. It's also the smallest Stax amp dimension wise.   Peter
