Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
The Beyerdynamic cable is 4 pin XLR. The 3.5mm plugs on the can side fit well, however, they are smaller and not as tight as the original Elear ones. So it's not the extra lock which holds the cable, but the 3.5mm jack itself. Thomann is the largest online retailer of music gear in...- peterb123

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.
Version 8 Beta is out now and available on www.lynxstudio.com - check their support forum. For me, it's really a major improvement, makes working with the touch screen easier and more straight forward. 7 was good, but this is great. Highly recommended to try. The Hilo Remote on Mac is...- peterb123

Lynx Hilo - new offering from Pro Audio company.
I think so. Currently, we are on 7, the new one is 8. So even if you had to do 7 first, it's a 5 min thing.- peterb123

The Stax Thread III
I bought a 353X from Japan recently. The power supply section is similar to the 323 - no switch, meaning fixed to 100V input, and cutted wires on the transformer, so hardly possible to change voltage by soldering. Peter- peterb123

Tidal vs ?
ClassicOnline HD*LL can stream High Res (up to 192/24) on a Mac (and for sure other plattforms as well). Catalogue is rather small with mainly Naxos content. Qobuz can stream High Res (up to 192/24) on an iPhone (you need a capable DAC for that), but only music you have purchased in High Res...- peterb123

is Sennheiser HD 800 still the best headphone for music out there ? also how much better is it compared to hd700?
HD700 is definitely playing in a different (lower) league. That does not mean you might not be satisfied. The only way to find out is to try. It could be that HD800 hooked up to your mainboard would ok for you. But - I don't think there is any mainboard regardless of price which has an...- peterb123

is Sennheiser HD 800 still the best headphone for music out there ? also how much better is it compared to hd700?
Some would argue the HD800S is even better - but I don't think there is an agreement in the community, yet. For me, with that budget, I would go for the HD800 without hesitation. If I had to keep just one headphone, I would easily select the HD800. Now, if you look for heavy bass, probably...- peterb123

The Entry Level Stax Thread
Yes, no problem - but be aware of polarity, as said a few posts above. Otherwise, you could damage the 2170. I don't think there is an audible sound difference unless the power supply is broken (and creating a hum or other noise). The supplied 100V supply from STAX is not special at all...- peterb123

The Entry Level Stax Thread
Yes, that looks good. I know you know, but really make sure the polarity is as printed on the back of the 2170: plus on the outside, minus in the center of the plug. Otherwise, you will need a fuse and a soldering iron... Peter- peterb123

Is there a STAX amp with SMPS (auto ranging 100-240V)?
You could use a 252 amp which uses an external power supply - and get a switchable PS for that. It's also the smallest Stax amp dimension wise. Peter- peterb123

SPL PHONITOR 2 NEW HEADPHONE AMP
Exactly - I find it very useful for the Stax 323S I have connected (and a tube amp after the 323). With that, those amps get crossfeed functionality. If you connect speakers, it doesn't make sense IMO.- peterb123

need recommendations for a Good SACD player
I also use a Marantz UD-7007 and really like the balanced XLR out which goes to the SPL Phonitor 2. Sometimes, I use the digital out, but as with any SACD player, it only gives 44 or 88khz, depending on the way out (optical/Coax/HDMI). Can highly recommend the UD7007, it plays any disc...- peterb123

SPL PHONITOR 2 NEW HEADPHONE AMP
I do, going to a Stax 323. Works great, I have the volume control dip switch on, so I can use a remote to control the volume even when using Stax. Also, my Stax get's the Matrix functions with that. Peter- peterb123

SPL Phonitor (with HD800 and RAM DL3) impressions and reviews
I'm using this combo with the stock (unbalanced) cable, and I think it's great (fed with music by the great Lynx Hilo). A couple of thoughts re: balanced cable for this config: - The connector on the phones of the HD800 has only 2 pins - balanced, really? - I use the XLR output of the SPL...- peterb123

DAC with dual XLR pairs
I have a Lynx Hilo with 2 balanced (variable) outputs, the Monitor (with 1/4* TRS) going to XLR-in on my active monitors, the Line-Out (XLR) going to my SPL Phonitor 2 headphone amp. You can manage all outputs on the integrated touchscreen or with an app on the Mac. I have the Thunderbolt...- peterb123

Is it better to upgrade directly to the STAX SR-009 or get the SR-207 first?
Yup, Fedex. Might depend on destination - I'm in Europe. The 3170 order later was maybe a day longer, but all arrived within a week. The Pricejapan folks are great and very responsive. Peter- peterb123

Is it better to upgrade directly to the STAX SR-009 or get the SR-207 first?
Pricejapan's current pricing to the US is 400$ for the 2170 and 4000$ for the 009 / SRM-007 combo. It's a little bit like comparing a Mazda Miata and a Ferrari California. When I got into sports cars, I started with the Miata. Never found a direct comparison to the California, but I'm sure...- peterb123

Is it better to upgrade directly to the STAX SR-009 or get the SR-207 first?
Don't forget that you should get the right amp for the SR-009 - so you are comparing a 500$ with a 5000 - 8000$ investment. I don't think anyone owning both would say the 2170 combo is better than the SR-009. I own a 2170 and a 3170 combo, and the 3170 is significantly better. Got them both...- peterb123
