Open Plan X-Cans - Has It Ever Been Done ?
Thanks guys, some good ideas there but I think the OP Amp swap is probably a better idea. Stripped down the X-Cans last night and fired up the tubes, very disapointing glow actually, like a torch just as the battery is about to fail. I thought they might have quite a bright glow, like a low...- Perfectionist

Open Plan X-Cans - Has It Ever Been Done ?
Hi, I currently have the X-Can's V2 and am considering doing something a little more interesting with the design of it. IMHO the design is really pretty dull, for a valve amp. I have always thought part of the appeal of valves was the ability to see them. So I am considering totally...- Perfectionist

New 580s
Bifcake, your initial experiences of the 580's sounding muffled and tinny mirror my own, up to now. I have had my 580's for about 6 months now, and have used them quite a lot, but I have not really given them a true break-in (max volume for 24 + hours). I am currently doing this to hopefully...- Perfectionist

Best Headphone & Amp Combo For Rock ?
How could I leave you guys Nah, the only thing that pissed me off was that everyone seemed to recommend the use of an amp, the X-Can’s came up more than once with regards the 580's. Then, when I bought one, all of a sudden it was the worst amp on the market, and everyone was saying I would...- Perfectionist

Best Headphone & Amp Combo For Rock ?
Thanks for all your advice guys It looks as though Grado's are the way to go. I have found a pair of RS2's second hand for $297 - is that a good deal do you think ? Or should I go new 325's ? As far as amp's go, I do seem to recall Nick Dangerous himself saying that on comparison with...- Perfectionist

Best Headphone & Amp Combo For Rock ?
Hi Sorry about the cheesy thread title, this question has probably been answered 100 times before, but I suppose everyone’s case is different....here’s mine. I’m looking to replace my Sennheiser 580 and X-Can’s V2 combination. I find it is overly bright feel that it lacks the punch/bass...- Perfectionist

Ah well, each to their own, I have to STRONGLY disagree with the following : Nick Dangerous Chadbang Nacher This is supposed to be a pro X-Cans thread, if you want to slag them off, please start your own anti X-Cans thread. I really don't understand this forum, and if it keeps up...- Perfectionist

Very constructive Nacher As I have already had slapped wrists off MacDef () for my outbursts, I will leave it to other members of the forum to give you their, ahem, comments. Well just a little update, and still WOW !! I have now run them in (cooked eggs on my PSU anyone?) and they sound...- Perfectionist

Unwisely, I parade my ignorance of my own equipment. Please help me.
No, it doesn't mean it's a valve system I have a Marantz PM-66 which clicks on after about 20 seconds, as does my friends Sony integrated. I think it simply performs a self check (somehow, I'm sure someone will know what it checks, probably for short circuits or overloads) and then...- Perfectionist

headphone amp buying guide
X-Cans !! Dependant on your headphones of course....if you have Senn's get the X-Cans IMHO. As for the X-PSU, mmmm, I have heard conflicting reports, some say it's better with it, some say you cant tell the difference and some say it's worse. Try it and see I suppose. Cheers, Rick- Perfectionist

Hi all, First things first, the glass head. Well I live in the UK (possibly a bit of a problem if you live in the US !!), and I got it a long time ago from a shop called Spoils, which I also think may have gone out of business !! It is a really good tool though. OK then, I have tried...- Perfectionist
