Modding Turtle Beach SRM
Metril, You don't give us many details. Your Fuze phone should sound at least "all right" as is. Having an external amp for a phone source is likely less effective than getting better headphones, but I've no direct experience with the Fuze, so it's just an opinionated guess. The 11 pin...- OtterMarc

Single Chip Buffered Cmoy
Andrew, The NE5532 is an old staple in the audio trade. Much of our music from the 70's 80's etc was mixed on that op amp or similar ones. It isn't up to the standard head-fiers appreciate today. Having a bipolar input means that bias currents must be taken into account. Here are two...- OtterMarc

Alien DAC v1.1 Construction Thread
SMEGGER - there's nothing wrong with your pictures. Nice going. Sound nice? I'll be building one shortly. Jeff has sent me one in the mail. SLAUGHTER, wow, no REG101's. Wish I knew what to suggest. August 2008 would be fine for Aussies - it's their summer now. We've got winter projects to...- OtterMarc

quick Q about diy pc fan speed controller.
Reasons why your 100K pot won't work is that you need to drop a few volts, 5 to maybe 7 off the 12. I have a 120MM fan here, quiet-ish and it takes .08 Amps at 12 volts. One would need to guess or better, measure what actual current yours would require at lower voltages and lower speeds. To...- OtterMarc

Small Montreal Mini-Meet to celebrate SPRING!
Sorry, can't make that weekend. You have fun, and I'll try to make the NEXT one, or start an Ottawa one... hehehe. Marc PS After several calls and messages, Sennheiser never called back.- OtterMarc

Brain-Pick- Can it be done? Cable guys help me out-->
Rob, You've already got the cable issue resolved, but there's another. The guitar signal may be too weak for the amp. You might need some kind of guitar amp between your guitar and the amp for it to work. The TV in is meant for a line-level input up to a volt. Guitars don't put out one volt...- OtterMarc

Small Montreal Mini-Meet to celebrate SPRING!
A thought: What about asking for a meeting space at the audio-video show. It would be 100% consistent with their intent to attract an audiophile crowd. Someone from Montreal could look into it, perhaps. (I'm the Montrealer exiled to Ottawa) There's been no response still from Sennheiser...- OtterMarc

Output transformer for stats?
Quote: I think that's a little off. The turns ratio of a transformer is determined by taking the square root of the primary impedance divided by the secondary impedance, or the reverse in this case since this is a step-up rather than a step-down transformer. Tyre, Wouldn't this be...- OtterMarc

Small Montreal Mini-Meet to celebrate SPRING!
That's terrific Nightfire. I've just received a pair of AlienDac boards to start on. No parts ordered yet. Sennheiser have still not responded. I called again just now. We'll have to wait and wait and see. Perhaps I'll catch them at a better moment. I'm still interested, but out of...- OtterMarc
