Hey all,   I own Beyerdynamic 990's and am considering buying an amp for them.   But the Engineer in me is bothered...  Why should high impedance phones need a bigger amp?   I can see that you need more voltage for a given volume level.  P = V^2 / R so twice the impedance requires...

Ah ha!  Thank you very much.   I popped off the headband, as you described, and popped on my old puffy 990 pro headband.  It was a bit tight, but after a brief struggle I now have nice puffy 990 600 ohms   Happy, happy :-D

I am also an owner of 880s, and I did not like them...  Not enough bass and too much mids for my ears, and a bit brittle.   I also got the 990 600 ohms.   I am now very happy :-D

What! Are you guys kidding?   I haven't seen anyone mention the Beyer 990's yet   Get the 600ohm and a good amp... You'll be very very happy :-D

Great thread!   I am also a Beyerdynamic lover!   I own the 880 250ohm, the 990 pro, and the 990 600 ohm.  I completely concur with your descriptions, especially the "but damn its good" bass on the 990s.   I want to add long term ease of listening.  Even though the treble is strong...

Hello all,   I own the latest 990 600ohm cans, and I love the sound!  Unfortunately, I don't love the headband.   I also own the older 990 pro and 880s.  I stuck with Beyerdynamic partly my old phones were super comfortable, and the replacable ear cups and padding are a bug plus.  ...

Greetings, this is my first post here (although I am an avid reader)   I own Beyerdynamic 990 600ohms and also 880 300ohms   What cheap solid state amps would you suggest that can drive 600 ohms?  This is for my desk at work, so size / power supply is not an issue.   Thanks
