    Focal Utopia General Discussion

Are you under the impression Chord is a headphone company? They have a range of some of the best amplifiers, preamplifiers, monoblocks, etc. that money can buy. I would also challenge the fact that the Naim statement series is somehow far beyond what Chord is doing. Chord is no slouch in two...

    Jade II Discussion

Full disclosure I haven't personally heard them, but from the murmurs online these are more like a ShangriLa Jr. Jr. (ie. a junior version of the ShangriLa Jr) then an original HE Audio Jade reborn. It makes sense if you look at the tech involved, as it uses nano-tech which was used in the...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

**EDIT After a product name change these are now called the RAAL/Requisite SR-1A*** Anyone hear these at RMAF 2018? Very interested to hear impressions. Looks like a K1000 reborn on steroids. Similarly I also heard it is very power hungry, with a recommended 50W power source. Also seems...

    Jade II Discussion

Very surprised the Jade 2 is coming in at cheaper than the HE6se. Didn't see that one coming. Might pick this one up just for the hell of it. I've been very impressed with the HE6se from a build quality and sound quality perspective. I think Hifiman has a great idea here revisiting their old...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

Have to say I'm really impressed with the build quality of the HE6SE. It feels like a premium headphone. Zero creaks or rattles. The cable seems very high quality with zero microphonics or other annoyances. It just feels solid & well put together. I remember every time I saw the original HE6 at...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

Always fun to read the extended bloviating from the Stax mafia about "inferior" products. Good for entertainment value, not much else.

    Hifiman HE6-SE

I think I'm starting to understand why the HE6 had a reputation for driver failures. I'm pretty sure 5 watts per channel is enough to completely blow up the drivers. Where are people getting this idea you need double digit watts per channel? 1 watt is enough to get it to over 80 db. You'd want...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

I'm not even mad I didn't get the adaptor - I heard it wasn't the greatest anyway. Essentially just a network of resistors. Very happy my 300b delivers immense clean power. Regarding the clamping force - I can echo those statements. It does clamp rather authoritatively. I have a large head...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

It's a 300b tube amp - the Ming Da MC300-ear. I don't think I've seen a post on one yet, but it's their 300b amp targeted at headphone users. I will do a proper write up one of these days and post about it. It is a phenomenal amplifier. Source is a Oppo UDP-205. Yes, I am a bit of an Oppo fan boy.

    Hifiman HE6-SE

I also didn't get the adapter. If you look at the moon audio unboxing, they also didn't get it: I don't really care since I am running balanced out into a 300b amp which can deliver 7wc, they sound great - but I think hifiman did say we should expect one. Also, don't be fooled by the ifi...

It's going to be a late night chill session with the new he6se:

    Hifiman HE-6SE and HE-1000SE announcement-

Apparently my ming da mc300 ear headphone amp is a beast. Using the balanced headphone out, I don't even need to turn it up a quarter way to get perfect volume. It sounds fantastic as well. On the other hand I tried my Oppo HA-1 briefly, which is no slouch for power, and had to crank it up...

    Hifiman HE-6SE and HE-1000SE announcement-

It has arrived!!! A mini unboxing. Early impressions: every bit as good as I remember. My 300b amp powers it fine out of balanced headphone out. Visceral, detailed, beautiful planar bass with real treble (if audeze treble works for you, this won't!) Will post more later, just enjoying them for...

    HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

Another angle people don't consider is that part of the purchase price is paying to provide support and maintenance, in this case of older technology that might be even more expensive to support compared to newer ones. In many cases like this, bringing back "older" technology and re-selling it...
